I was 7 and in Philadelphia. I'd lost my two front teeth and couldn't say Bicentennial. Everything was red, white, and blue. There were lots of fireworks. I saw "1776" with most of the original cast on Penn's Landing. There was some sort of festival every weekend. Good times.
Do you have any personal memory of our American Bicentennial in 1976 and how it made you feel?

it’s funny how sometimes you buy a book, then read it in two days, and sometimes you buy a book and it lives on your bookshelf for 12 years.

My great uncle always had these in the freezer.
Whoever invented these bad boys really knocked it out of the park, just a perfect little treat

GenXer here. Mom was a teacher so I had someone home over the summer. But if I wanted to spend the day hanging out in the library or go to a movie or take the bus to Center City, Mom would say OK and read a murder mystery

Reasons why 'Three Little Bops' (1957) is a timeless masterpiece... • Jazz-scored retelling of 'The Three Little Pigs'. • Friz Freleng’s most seamless fusion of animation and music with Jazz not as soundtrack, but as narrative spine. • Shorty Rogers’ score driving the whole short with irresistible swing, while Stan Freberg’s sly, rhythmic narration (a rare non–Mel Blanc vocal credit) gives the piece its voice without a single line of dialogue.

I am seriously starting to form the opinion that boys are doing a lot worse in school than they were 20 years ago because of you people. “Sitting quietly and listening to the teacher is girl behavior” can become a self-fulfilling prophesy you know.
If schools stopped treating boys like defective girls, this wouldn't be the case.

The guy who invented Peeps has one of the most interesting stores I’ve ever heard: Sam Born was a Russian Jewish immigrant who studied to become a rabbi in Ukraine. - Came to America. Made candy instead. - Named his company "Just Born", a pun on his last name plus the fact he made everything fresh daily. - In 1953, it took 27 hours to make one tray of Peeps with 80 workers spooning marshmallow into molds by hand. - Sam's son Bob automated it down to 6 minutes. Same machine design still runs today. Today they make 2 billion Peeps a year. All out of Bethlehem, PA. #1 non-chocolate Easter candy for 20 years. Russian Jewish immigrant studying to be a rabbi accidentally builds most iconic Easter candy in America out of a town called Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Maybe the most American story I've ever heard.
