Noam Chomsky advised Jeffrey Epstein to âignoreâ public scrutiny of his sex crimes, according to newly unsealed files which appear to show a close friendship between the two men.
Chomskyâs exchanges with the late paedophile financier, which span several years, are contained in a tranche of over three million documents released last Friday.
In one email from February 2019, the renowned leftwing academic dismisses âthe hysteria that has developed about the abuse of womenâ and advises Epstein ânot to react unless directly questionedâ. Epstein killed himself in his prison cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.
âWhat the vultures dearly want is a public response,â writes Chomsky in the same email, expressing sympathy for âthe horrible way you are being treated in the press and publicâ.
Other emails contain conversations about their planned trips to Epsteinâs Caribbean island, medical conditions and global politics. Their exchanges do not indicate any wrongdoing on Chomskyâs part, but underscore their social and financial ties.
In an email from 2016, Chomsky apologises for cancelling dinner plans, noting that his wife, Valeria, had âprepared [Epsteinâs] favorite dessertâ.
In a 2019 email from Valeria Chomsky to Steve Bannon inviting the former Trump advisor to their home for a meeting, she also refers to Epstein as âa very dear friendâ.
In another exchange from 2016, Chomsky and Epstein discuss Venezuela under Hugo Chavez, which Chomsky deems a âmajor disasterâ. âIs it socialism at its finest?â asks Epstein. âWasnât remotely like socialism,â Chomsky replies.
Epsteinâs financial filings released in the latest drop also appear to include multiple payments made to Chomsky and his family, including 20 separate gifts to his grandchildrenâs trusts.
This batch of Epstein files has further exposed the financierâs intimate relationships with powerful figures, including âThe Dukeâ, an alias believed to be Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, and former UK ambassador to the US Lord, Peter Mandelson, whose links to Epstein led to his resignation from the Labour party on Sunday.
