When the Bond creator sat down to write his first
#JamesBond novel, Casino Royale (published 1953), the name he chose for M's devoted secretary was... Miss Pettavel. He quickly realised his blend of fact and fiction was far too close to reality. The name was crossed out in pencil, and a new name was inserted... Miss Moneypenny.
