For @jacobin: “The SNP’s ‘big tent,’ gradually erected over decades of painstaking pitching to different parts of the Scottish electorate, is beginning to fray. In part, that’s because ministers and parliamentarians have stopped tending to it.” jacobin.com/2026/05/scottish…

There’s a clear pattern here: removing trial by jury for a whole layer of cases; blocking Cenk Uyghur and Hasan Piker from entering the country; the Filton 4 being sentenced as terrorists but not charged as terrorists (yes, really); a British citizen in Russia having his citizenship removed without being charged with anything; stuff like this - constantly. It’s becoming so normal now. There’s a great phrase ‘turnkey tyranny’: you might like the people doing this today, or despise those on the receiving end, but tomorrow it WILL be different. The end point is very obvious. And these tools, and this trajectory, in the wrong hands, is quite a terrifying thought.

French authorities confirm Israeli interference in the Scottish election. A critically important story and a clear effort to destabilise our democracy, but also now a test for Scotland’s press — will this story be followed up? And the necessary questions asked?

The SNP's Westminster leader trying to outflank Keir Starmer from the right for the second time in a few weeks—last time he was accusing Labour of being "anti-business", as empty a phrase as you'll find in the English language.

40% of initial funding from the ScotGov’s £500m Just Transition fund ended up with organisations linked to oil billionaire Ian Wood. Now that Scotland’s politicians are developing an appetite to follow the money, there’s plenty of questions to ask — if they’re interested enough.

It’s worth noting that the Scottish Labour Party leadership seems not to have noticed that they lost last month’s election. Carrying on as normal to the letter. Quite staggering when you consider the scale of the defeat, but more likely just a sign of terminal decline.

YouGov’s post-election study suggests the Party’s base is now University-educated professionals with a household income of more than £70,000. Anas Sarwar seems quite happy with that.

The sheer diversity of those attacked across the UK last night obliterates the claims of concerns over crime, ‘cultural difference’, or even migration. The common denominator was skin colour. The thugs openly said they were hunting for black people.

🚨BREAKING: Israel has closed all crossings into Gaza and halted the entry of humanitarian aid following Iran’s retaliatory strikes on Israel, cutting off supplies to roughly 2 million Palestinians in the territory. Israel has imposed similar blanket closures during previous periods of regional escalation, including immediately after the outbreak of war in late February, collectively punishing Gaza’s civilian population.
Following the missile attacks launched by Iran against the State of Israel, a number of necessary security measures have been implemented, including the closure of the crossings into the Gaza Strip, among them the Kerem Shalom Crossing and the Rafah Crossing, until further notice. It should be emphasized that the closure of the crossings will not affect the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. The substantial quantities of food that have entered the Strip since the beginning of the ceasefire significantly exceed the nutritional needs of the population, according to UN methodologies. COGAT will continue to maintain ongoing contact with the international community and will provide updates on any developments in accordance with the security situation assessment.
