@Royal_College . I am now consumed with patient advocacy and it seems like no matter how many stories and patient tragedies I hear and read about, the situation just keeps getting worse. How is it possible that the people in the highest echelons of power in BC (including the last stop 🛑) are oblivious to the tragedies happening to their own citizens. A party that is about a chance at the Canadian dream, equal rights, employment and fair wages
@avilewis would John Horgan have done something? 100% yes. Here is a concrete call to action ⬇️
1 Recommend the establishment of an independent public inquiry into BC's involuntary psychiatric system.
2Conduct a province-wide audit of Mental Health Act compliance, including mandatory forms and detention procedures
3Create independent oversight and governance mechanisms for Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) programs
4Enlist Bar Associations to help reform the Mental Health Act to provide separate and enhanced protections for children and youth.
5Mandate automatic referral of all involuntary patients, especially children and youth, to independent rights advisors.
