Planning a garden info project with Biology students that ties into biodiversity & taxonomy. Hoping to connect with @TownofCobourg to see if we can create and post little metal info tags so local residents can benefit from our learning. So much diversity all around us!

ALT 2 students standing near some trees taking pictures so they can identify them later; 2 other groups of 2-3 students in the background exploring the species in the marsh around a pond.

The perfect day for Gr. 9 biology! Indigenous poetry and teachings, David Suzuki, & our LC Specialist all helped us consider how we experience and are connected to the atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, & biosphere. @StStephenRoyal@PVNCCDSB#ecology#WeAreAir#WeAreWater

Hi #Disability community (particularly #onted ): our 7yo has #LongCovid and his school board refused in-person accommodations. Virtual school doesn’t work for him (frequent headaches & he hates it); fighting for 1hr/week home instruction. Any advice? Emailed MPP @DavidPiccini
Our negative assumptions about people with Down syndrome can lead us to treat them in such a way that these assumptions become reality. Why not reverse our perspectives? This #WorldDownSyndromeDay, #AssumeThatICan! @coordown@DSiupdate
Created a digital lab report for SNC1L so they could record their observations of physical and chemical changes using video, translation, & speech-to-text. I know we still have far to go, but accessibility has come a long way since I started out! @StStephenRoyal@PVNCCDSB#onted

Listening to meows and tweets as students explore motion sensors and alarms using CyberPi devices from @LOGICSAcademy - one group decided they wanted to try using their own voices as the alarm. Check out their first test! @StStephenRoyal@PVNCCDSB#coding#PVNClearns
Building more CR boxes with SVN3E! We input data from the CO2 monitor provided by @DonateMask into a spreadsheet (x.com/jljcolorado/status/127…) to estimate our ventilation rate (it was 0.77 ACH). We visited other classrooms with our monitor to see where clean air was needed most.

A simple spreadsheet estimation tool for COVID airborne-only transmission indoors.
Based on airborne infection models, e.g. medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/… and refs therein

Everyone who visited our class from H&S graciously took the time to explain what they were doing and answer questions. Students got to experience how learning and advocacy can affect positive change. They get to breathe the benefits. Soon their work will benefit others too.

This is not surprising to anyone following the science. If an average person like me knew the risks of infection, then governments, with access to way more info, knew. They KNEW, and still sent our children into unventilated schools & removed masks from hospitals #onted#onpoli
Our new study examines #COVID19 infections (including reinfections), long-term symptoms and their impact on the Canadian adult population more than three years since the beginning of the pandemic. To learn more: www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/dail….
ALT Nearly one in five Canadian adults has had more than one known or suspected COVID-19 infection.
• One in nine Canadian adults has experienced long-term symptoms from a COVID-19 infection.
• Seven in 10 Canadian adults with long-term symptoms experienced them on a daily or nearly daily basis.
• Two-thirds of Canadian adults who sought health care services for their long-term symptoms reported not receiving adequate care for any of their symptoms.
When a former @CdnSchoolLibrar student & @ForestofReading participant emails to let you know they published their first book (while still attending uni), of course you buy a copy! So exciting!

When I brought my CO2 monitor to school for a lesson on indoor air quality, we discovered our classroom was regularly over 2000 ppm (Health Canada recommends < 800). I had been experiencing headaches and nausea every day, and spend less time in the room than students. #onted

Today I am tabling the Improving Air Quality for Our Children Act, 2023.
If adopted, this bill will help improve air quality in our classrooms and licensed childcare facilities.
I hope that folks from all sides can stand behind this important issue for our kids

The ISTE Certified Educator training is like trying to take snapshots of the scenery while riding on a bullet train because there are so many ideas being shared at once that it's hard to keep up! #ISTEcert@AjBloom2pnt0@ana_cd@atilamrac@DaisySam1
What stands out from my learning so far? The importance of reflection and collaboration for growth. Pedagogy before technology. How lucky I am to be learning with and from such incredible educators. Thank you @takingitglobal! #ISTEcert@AjBloom2pnt0@ana_cd@atilamrac@DaisySam1
I have so many feelings about today, but connection and community are strongest. There are going to be challenges we haven’t anticipated, and the outcome might look different from what we plan, but we are already #unitedbybees@StStephenRoyal@PVNCCDSB@mikemooney1720
The focus of our project is to investigate how we can combine different subjects and build community and connection (to each other and the land) through Indigenous pedagogy. We hope the bees will unite us on this journey, but they are not our final destination.
