The Ford government's $750 classroom gift card gimmick was insulting and admits that our schools are underfunded. Asking teachers to buy classroom supplies is like asking nurses to shop for medical supplies before work because the hospital can't provide them. Now we learn that $300 of the promised $750 isn't even new funding - it's being taken from existing education dollars. That's not an investment in public education. It's a shell game. Ontario students and educators deserve properly funded classrooms, not government announcements that sound bigger than they really are. #onpoli #onted thestar.com/politics/provinc…

Contrast Ontario teachers' salary raises between 2012 and 2026 and those of MPPs and the Premier. MPP Base Salary: Rose from $116,550 in 2012 to $163,959 by 2026, representing a 40.7% increase. Premier's Salary: Rose from $209,272 in 2012 to $293,978 by 2026, representing a 40.3% increase.
It's that time of year again. There will be lots of misinformation circulating about teachers. Here's the truth about teacher raises and strikes in Ontario. Please share as needed.

Paul Calandra is cutting $4.7 million from PDSB's special education. This funding cut is devastating. Here we are this time last year outlining the problems with the funding formula. We have been calling for proper support. Instead he took over our board. #onted #onpoli
Provincial special education funding is closely tied to enrolment. The TDSB anticipates a reduction of about 5,000 students next year. thetrillium.ca:443/news/educ…

@PaulCalandra @ONeducation If you intend to overhaul Spec Ed in Ontario, you HAVE to collaborate with disabled & neurodivergent people It is ABLEIST to make unilateral decisions for them without their input #OntEd #ONpoli #autism #disability #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs
Great to meet with Minister Gould, the UK’s Minister for School Standards. Discussed shared priorities in education and the importance of working together to strengthen student success. Thank you, Minister Gould, for your time and a great discussion.

Did you tell them about all the cuts youve made to education @PaulCalandra
Today at the Education World Forum, I joined education leaders from around the world to discuss how learning beyond the classroom helps prepare students for the future. Non-formal education plays an important role in helping students build confidence, strengthen their communities and develop real world skills. Ontario is proud to be part of this global conversation as we continue working to support student success in school and beyond.

Instead of these ridiculous photo ops, why don’t you visit a classroom while an evacuation is taking place, and then stay to help clean up? Why don’t you visit a packed ER waiting room or a hallway filled with patients? Then maybe you’d set some valuable priorities.
Canadian pride is on full display at Flags Unlimited in Barrie! I had a great tour of this proud Ontario company to see how they’re supporting local jobs and world-class products.

They were 20 mins into the meeting when SEAC members were notified that it wasn’t being live streamed or recorded while PDSB Tech staff were sitting there being paid to work! Shame on you @PaulCalandra

Livestreaming & recording the #SEAC meetings are the only way many parents can access meetings especially parents of children with high spec ed needs. This is a CRUEL move begging for a human rights challenge. It's a simple & inexpensive accommodation. #onted #onpoli
Hey Doug, your Education Minister shut down virtual access to SEAC meetings with no notice. He directed that these meetings not be recorded, and surprise! He started with the budget meeting. Last year PDSB spec ed was underfunded by $45 million. Shuffle your Minister. #onted

I’m at the PDSB SEAC meeting tonight to support a delegating parent. 20 minutes in it was disclosed the meeting was not being livestreamed or recorded, and this would be the case going forward were Ministry directive. Peel deserves better. Why are we under supervision? #onted

They've allowed the Ontario Autism Program to crumble, deeply underfunded special education, and now they're taking away access to information about spec ed in ~40% of Ontario schools. Why is this govt making it so hard for families of kids with exceptionalities? #onted #onpoli

Having one EA running between several nonverbal students with ASD who also need toileting/feeding support and randomly run away and out into the street is becoming the norm across Ontario. Kids with unmet needs melting down is now the norm. #OntEd

β€œThe records also show the supervisor at Dufferin-Peel initially claimed 1,600 km for commuting to and from the job.” Because the DPCDSB supervisor is the recent PC MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, and not someone local with any education background. Make it make sense. #onted
NEW: The supervisors the Ford government appointed with direction to bring order and financial restraint to Ontario school boards are billing the province substantially different sums β€” with one charging almost $240,000 for six months of work. globalnews.ca/news/11770269/… #onpoli
