Very excited to host a roundtable with Alex Fitzimmons, Undersecretary of Energy for the U.S. Department of Energy along with Rep. Holmes, Rep. @MathewsforOhio, Rep. Klophenstein, and Sen. 🚨 Bad bill alert: We need you to call your Ohio Senator AND Ohio rep today to help stop HB 472, which could make voting impossible for thousands of eligible Ohio voters. Here's what's happening:
📃Until this week, HB 472 was a bipartisan bill focused on helping Ohioans experiencing homelessness obtain the documents they need to get an ID and participate in civic life. It was good!
😤 But now lawmakers are trying to replace it with a substitute bill that makes major changes to Ohio's vote-by-mail system.
🪢The new bill would require new photo ID for absentee voters, create a new online application system, and impose significant new responsibilities on county Boards of Elections.
Here's what's bad about the bill:
👵🏼 It will make voting by mail harder for a lot seniors, voters with disabilities, and other Ohioans who rely on absentee voting who can't easily get to the BMV
🗳️ It's an unfunded mandate for Boards of Elections, who are given huge new major new responsibilities to implement a brand new system with no clear funding plan
🧐 And this 121-page election bill was introduced with little time for the public—or even committee members—to review and understand it. It's being heard in House committee TODAY.
Election law is complicated. Changes this significant deserve careful review, public input, and thoughtful consideration before moving forward. The Ohio General Assembly and @POTUS's Ratepayer Protection Pledge change this. The companies building data centers pay their own way. They build, bring, or buy their own power, cover their own grid upgrades, and invest in the community. The cost doesn't land on ratepayers.
AND, this has unleashed generational investment with nearly 95,000 jobs, $12 billion into the economy, and every incentive dollar returning $2.10 in tax revenue.

Nothing infuriates an uninformed Congressional Dem more than when they realize they voluntarily triggered a debate with someone who actually knows what they are talking about, reads federal statute and adheres to Supreme Court precedent. Today’s self-implosion by @rosadelauro was quite remarkable to witness. Without apology or regret, I will always adhere to the best available reading of federal statute pursuant to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Loper Bright.

It’s called TEMPORARY protected status (TPS) for a reason.
The Senate will not expand TPS. The House’s bill is an insult to the millions of people patiently waiting in line & a tacit approval of Biden’s border invasion where TPS became de facto amnesty. Republicans will not continue to allow wage suppressing illegal migration to destroy working Americans with high prices, healthcare shortages, housing scarcity, and degradation of our social safety nets.

91% of the 350,000 Haitians under TPS entered the US illegally and 65% of Haitian non-citizen households receive welfare benefits.

Ohio Reps. @steve4ohsenate & @JoshWilliamsOH passed the Innocence Act (HB 84) through the Ohio House that requires age verification on platforms pushing obscene content AND making deepfake pornography without someone's consent a criminal offense.
We have a federal law. Now let's make sure Ohio has one too because our kids deserve protection at every level.
