Why didn’t Farage just declare the £5m personal gift from Harborne which, a few months before becoming an MP in 2024? The rules state new MPs "must register all their current financial interests, and any registrable benefits (other than earnings) received in the 12 months before their election within one month of their election". The rules also say "both the possible motive of the giver and the use to which the gift is to be put should be considered", adding "if there is any doubt, the benefit should be registered". Farage insists it was a purely personal gift and that he didn’t need to declare it

Dear @SuellaBraverman I just wanted to call you out on your recent claim that 250,000 international students in the UK 🇬🇧 took tax payers students loan to pay for their courses worth £4Billion. This is part of how you mischievous and irresponsible politicians cause chaos in the country by deliberately misinforming the common people out of desperation. This is grossly irresponsible of you, REFORM UK and Restore Britain or whatever senseless name the other Temu Party calls itself. Even EU students do not have access to students loan in the UK, let alone international students from outside Europe 🇪🇺 As a leader of one of the Nigerian Communities in UK 🇬🇧 which has members who are mostly students, I hereby challenge you to publish your evidence to substantiate this ridiculously outrageous claim within 48 hours from now or delete your post with an apology. Failure to do this, I might be forced to sue you to the court of law in line with the Online Safety Act 2023. You’ll also have to explain to the court of law and general public if this was what you did as Home Secretary under the Conservative Government, to give tax payers money out to immigrants as students loan, or failed to detect same.
