The viral video of Yemen’s “Spider-Man🕸️” falling to his death has been watched by hundreds of thousands. But most people don’t know why he was called a hero in his hometown.
His real name was Al-Qa’qa’ bin Antar Al-Absi, 30 years old.
He was an incredible free solo climber who scaled steep crater walls without ropes and wrote people’s names on the rock for money.
In war-torn, economically collapsed Yemen, these life-risking performances were often the only way left to put food on the table for his family.
To locals, he wasn’t just a reckless daredevil ? he was a young man who had no other choice but to bet his life to survive.

【The Greatest Possible Tribute】
Just two days after his death, local notables, businessmen, and Yemeni expatriates launched a major community project to build a house for his family.
His family had been living in a modest rented home. The initiative aims to buy land and construct a proper house for his large family ? including his parents, siblings, wife, and children.
Many have already pledged money, materials, and donations. They say the best way to honor him is to support the family who lost their main breadwinner.
Local voices also sent a sharp message:
“While millions consume his fall video and platforms profit, his family now faces an immediate livelihood crisis.”

From local comments, it’s clear he wasn’t just a family breadwinner.
He was a true local hero who brought external money into a region devastated by war and economic collapse.
By combining the unique tourist resource of the extinct volcano crater with his extraordinary physical ability, he created viral rope-free climbing performances.
Tourists came to see him, and money flowed into local shops, transport, and eateries.
In other words, he was literally burning his own life as fuel for the local economy ? acting as a hub that drew attention and cash flow to the entire town.
That’s why the community moved so quickly to support his family. It wasn’t just mourning ? it was gratitude and a sense of redemption toward the hero who had risked everything to keep the town’s economic flame alive.
Millions are now watching his final fall as entertainment, while platforms profit… and his family has lost their foundation for living.
Before turning a human tragedy into content, I hope we can at least try to imagine the harsh reality behind it.
