Chief leader writer of the Financial Times. Ex-Eastern Europe Editor, Moscow, New York, Brussels. Sometimes I'll tweet The FT View. Other views my own.
The #FTView: Britain needs to be bolder in its EU reset. Labour's self-imposed red lines are regrettable, but there's still scope to be more ambitious ft.com/content/7865baeb-772f… via @ft
The FT View on USAID and the wilful sabotage of American soft power. Trump's suspension of foreign aid is putting help to millions at risk - and opening space for China ft.com/content/d2a9ba8e-81ce… via @ft
I had the pleasure of briefly sharing an office with Samer Iskandar in Brussels in 1998. One summer Friday night we drove to Paris in his yellow sports car and spent a wonderful weekend with his friends. A beautiful tribute here to a much-missed FT alumnus on.ft.com/3XaUNsW

Even by his usual standards, this is a particularly brilliant column by Martin Wolf.

Not so, Senator. UNHCR: Hungary has taken in 33k Ukrainian refugees. Poland has taken 1.5m (47x more, with population 4x as big). Czech Rep, broadly similar population to Hungary, has taken half a million. 2.1m crossed border into Hungary, nearly all left data.unhcr.org/en/situations…
Hungary took in a million refugees from Ukraine, something Mr. flag-in-the-bio probably supports. Now he’s dunking on a country of 10 million for the predictable supply shortages.
Remarkable interview with Russian radio host @aavst20551 brilliantly illuminating the dilemmas & compromises of journalism in Moscow - and also what he told Putin about his place in history. Tk you @polinaivanovva for one of the epic Lunches with the FT ft.com/content/88763367-d15b…
