Leading medical journal The Lancet publishes call to expel Israeli Medical Association over Gaza genocide —— Medical journal The Lancet has published a petition calling for the Israeli Medical Association to be boycotted and expelled from the World Medical Association over its failure to condemn what the petition describes as Israel's genocide against Palestinians and the collapse of Gaza's healthcare system. The campaign, launched by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, Healthcare Workers for Palestine, and Doctors for Gaza, has so far received support from more than 1,150 healthcare professionals and medical organizations. The call for expulsion is expected to be raised at the World Medical Association's general assembly in October. The Israeli Medical Association opposed the move, arguing that its expulsion would not advance peace, healthcare, or human rights, and would instead create a precedent for using political pressure campaigns to isolate healthcare workers based on their nationality.

Where can I find out more about this parking ticket in Greece...
Look, I’ll save you the headache. Kiriakou was known for two things *before* he unmasked an undercover CIA officer, went to prison for doing so, got out, and then went to work for the Russians. When he was stationed in Greece, he illegally parked his car at the port in Piraeus next to the ferry boarding area. The police told him to move it. Kiriakou locked himself inside and refused to get out of his car and said he didn’t have to, he was from the U.S. Embassy. Caused an unnecessary diplomatic stink over a fucking parking violation, which became notorious in the building — although not nearly as notorious as what else happened to him in Greece. His wife had an affair. When Kiriakou found out about it, he behaved in a manner unbefitting of any officer of any clandestine service, except maybe Russia’s, which is why he’s a good fit for them now. As he’ll be the first to tell you, he’s got bills to pay. Big on the IRGC-aligned podcast bro circuit but knows nothing, is aggressive in his ignorance, and generally held to be a laughingstock at his former organization. I believe the kiddos call this being a “whistleblower,” which is even more hilarious. Thank you for attending my TED Talk.

Last Thursday, as a former @UNRWA employee myself, I received an email from UNRWA's Commissioner-General ad interim, Christian Saunders @CFSaundersUN, informing staff that he had decided to terminate the employment of 70 UNRWA employees in Gaza with immediate effect. He stressed that the decision was neither a disciplinary measure nor a validation of the allegations made by Israel, noting that UNRWA had repeatedly requested evidence from the Israeli authorities and had received none. Instead, he said the dismissals were intended to mitigate what the Agency considered growing security risks to its staff, beneficiaries, premises, and operations. There is something deeply unjust about dismissing 70 people while admitting that no evidence was ever provided against them. Allegations are not proof. When accusations alone are enough to end careers and devastate families, due process ceases to be a principle and becomes a privilege. PS: @UNRWA terminated my contract, along with those of 621 of my colleagues, simply because we escaped the genocide in Gaza and didn't want our children to be killed in front of our eyes. Many of my colleagues were injured and left on medical evacuations. Others accompanied family members who were seriously wounded. We were all terminated in January 2026 after spending an entire year on forced exceptional leave, despite the fact that many of us continued working online throughout that period. The funny thing is that "Western" UNRWA employees were not terminated, even though many of them are also outside Gaza. They continue to receive salaries that are at least 15 times higher than ours, not to mention the benefits that come with them. An agency established to care for Palestinian refugees ended up firing Palestinian refugees like myself while retaining and generously paying international staff. It's a joke. Except it's not funny, because it's real. @UNWatch

On Wednesday, the federal government introduced Bill C-34, the Safe Social Media Act, with the stated goal of making the online activities of Canadians safer. The bill raises significant civil liberties concerns, including through the limitless powers it grants the government and a new digital safety regulator. Read more here. ccla.org/press-release/ccla-…

Bill C-34: Government officials are reportedly considering digital ID as an age-verification solution. According to privacy expert and law professor @mgeist, government officials told participants at a technical briefing that they are exploring “leveraging government ID systems” for age verification. The language of Bill C-34 requires affected social media platforms to prevent minors from creating accounts through age-verification or age-estimation measures. Australia has pursued a similar model. But government officials are now contemplating a different possibility: Canadians proving eligibility through government-operated digital ID systems such as the Alberta Digital ID, BCeID, or perhaps even a future national digital ID. This may never materialize. But the fact that government officials are considering government-controlled digital ID systems as a gateway to social media access should concern every Canadian who values freedom of expression, access to information, and privacy. More to follow.
Sitting in on a technical briefing for Bill C-34, where officials just said looking into different methods for age assurance. Mentioned the prospect of leveraging government ID systems (digital IDs?), third parties, or companies themselves. Clear they really don’t know right now.

It is deeply ironic that youth (with Charter rights, by the way) who care about their futures and important public policy issues will not be able to hear directly from political leaders about laws that directly affect them.
Online harms—from cyberbullying to sexual deepfakes or addictive features —are causing real and lasting harm to children. We can’t let them down. Our Safe Social Media Act will ensure platforms put children’s safety first in the design of their services.

This is Yegor. He co-founded a tech company in Canada. They employ people here. Their mission is to protect people's privacy and security, including dissidents and activists who fear repression. Soon, he will not be able to do that from Canada due to Bill C-22 Lawful Access.

If @MarkJCarney wants to #ProtectTheChildren online, he should invest in: education, mental health care, media literacy, & suicide prevention programs. He should not infantilize the whole nation, making us submit ID and face scans to Big Tech companies, making everyone vulnerable

I also want to protect the children. But the government isn't bringing in age verification to protect the children, that's the trojan horse, to derail the debate. They are trying to lock minorities out of the internet, undocumented people, trans people.

They are trying to make it harder for social movements to seed & grow online, harder for everyone to meet online and organize ourselves and create mass movements. That's what age verification is about: atomizing society. Excluding teenagers from politics.
