✨Excited to share that our Nanodomain paper is finally published on @NatureNano! We probed the internal organization of FUS #condensate via #SingleMolecule tracking and found nanodomains that constrain the protein and #RNA diffusion and thus tune local biochemistry. Repositioning of nanodomains towards condensate periphery might seed and thus explain aging-induced protein fibrillation. Nanodomain properties are regulated by guest molecules, including small-molecule ALS drugs, even at very low concentration. Taken together, this #research shows that the nanoscopic world inside a condensate is vivid, and the intra-condensate dynamics could elucidate foundational aspects of condensate biology/pathology.

Researchers with @NilsWalterLab have developed an AI model that discovers unique molecule behaviors in fluorescence microscopy. The model could soon be scaled to follow particles, wild animals or even the trajectory of asteroids through our solar system. myumi.ch/pVPZq
Great day at @UMichMedSchool's Researchpalooza event yesterday! Damon Hoff talked up @umichrna's SMART Center core facility, and all things #RNA, #DNA, single-molecule imaging, and beyond. @NilsWalterLab
Very honored & delighted to present a talk at A-RNA 2025 in Sydney, Australia, about Life in Eternal Flux as exemplified by RNA-protein complexes: a-rnameeting.org.au/ Great lineup of speakers!
I'm so grateful to this award and all the solid training I got from @NilsWalterLab and @UMBiophys !! Will keep going with I have learned here! Go blue!
Congratulations to Guoming Gao for being awarded the Krimm Dissertation Award, Megan Westwood for being awarded the Krimm Outstanding Graduate Student Award, and Joy Liao for being awarded the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award at our 2025 graduation reception!
Let's celebrate both past achievements and future promise--Guoming Gao (Krimm dissertation awardee) mentee and current Walter lab graduate student Bisal Halder just passed his Chemistry gateway exam with flying colors--Congrats Bisal!!
Congrats to former Walter lab graduate student Guoming Gao on Krimm Dissertation Award of Biophysics at the University of Michigan for his dissertation "Probing the Impact of Biomolecular Condensates on RNAs with Single-Molecule Tracking in vitro and in cellulo"--Well-deserved!
Congrats to Dr. Adrien Chauvier from the @NilsWalterLab for receiving the well-deserved 2025 Research Associate Recognition Award from the @UMichResearch Office of the VP for Research! Adrien truly shows exceptional performance and goes the extra mile! @umichrna@MichiganChem
Thanks for inviting me to speak & cordially welcoming me to the Lorne Genome conference 2025–@Australia has great science, friendly people, and a commitment to innovation! What an enjoyable & stimulating sabbatical at @UNSW in @cityofsydney and beyond! @umichrna@MichiganChem

Happy Holidays to all from the @NilsWalterLab - Cheers to a successful year with great papers, much camaraderie, shared ups and downs (more ups!), White Elephant gifts, and support from such a diverse group! To more such years! @MichiganChem@umichrna@UMBiophys@umichmedicine
CONGRATS to *Dr* Emily Ellinger - cheers to a well-deserved PhD, making it through the pandemic and onto exciting papers on riboswitch function and therapeutics! @MichiganChem@umichrna & Biological Chemistry in @umichmedicine@UMPIBS
In @ScienceMagazine - great collaborative work w/ @AlbertW_Lab & @RappsilberLab showing that bacterial RNA polymerase can thread nascent mRNA into the pioneering ribosome from two sides for higher translation initiation efficiency - target for antibiotics?
