📉 JPMorgan: “Schrödinger’s Strait” Is Both Open and Closed In a new note, JPMorgan’s commodities team says the Strait of Hormuz exists in a paradox, simultaneously “open” and “closed,” much like the cat in the famous thought experiment. Since March 1, the strait has been seen as effectively closed, with commercial shipping disrupted, insurers withdrawing coverage, tanker traffic collapsing, and Persian Gulf exports falling sharply. Yet oil is quietly finding its way out. The bank estimates flows are recovering, but still far from normal: 🔸 JPMorgan estimates oil flows through Hormuz are running at 5.1 million barrels per day in June, up from 2.9 mb/d in May, but still only about 25% of pre-war levels. 🔸 Total Persian Gulf exports reached nearly 8.9 mb/d, the highest since the war began, as oil increasingly finds alternative routes out of the Gulf, though that remains well below the 2025 baseline of 18.8 mb/d. 🔸 Roughly 0.8 mb/d is labeled as Iranian crude, but JPMorgan says those cargoes appear to pause in Omani waters and may not represent “true” Hormuz transits, likely turning back under the U.S. Navy blockade. JPMorgan’s Natasha Kaneva writes that the box (the Strait) is “starting to creak open,” but with flows still at only about a quarter of pre-war levels, it cautions against interpreting the recent rebound as a return to normal.

I have fought the neocons and warmongers in Washington for more than 25 years. Throughout, they have tried to silence, discredit, slander, and cancel me. Only recently, however, have they tried to deport me. At least, that appears to have been the aim of a hit piece in Bari Weiss’s The Free Press, which claimed that Marco Rubio’s State Department was “investigating” me for allegedly seeking to “undermine the U.S.”—presumably because of my opposition to war with Iran. Yet just hours later, the State Department issued a statement to reporters clarifying that “the State Department has no plans to revoke the green card of Mr. Parsi at this time.” Nor did it provide any confirmation for the central premise of the Free Press story—that an investigation of me existed in the first place. So here’s what I think happened. Read the full piece on my Substack: tritaparsi.substack.com/p/so…

We express deep concern and outrage at the Israeli High Court’s decision to reject the petition of the Association of International Development Agencies (AIDA) and 18 other international humanitarian organizations against the new registration procedure established by the Israeli government. The procedure violates core humanitarian principles of independence and neutrality, and conditions humanitarian operations on irrelevant political considerations. The requirement to disclose sensitive personal data of Palestinian staff constitutes a breach of organizations’ duty of care, exposing their employees to surveillance and harm, not to mention that it would compel organizations to violate the privacy laws to which they are bound. The court’s decision lends support to a policy that enables Israel to restrict the operations of international humanitarian organizations working in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and in the Gaza Strip, and thus bars Palestinians’ access to life-saving aid and essential services. While Gaza residents face an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe following more than two and a half years of Israel’s attacks, and West Bank residents experience economic crisis and unchecked violence by settlers and Israeli security forces, Israel is using its control over humanitarian access to deepen the harm inflicted on Palestinians, all while abdicating its obligations as an occupying power under international law. Rather than compelling the state to fulfill its obligations toward the protected population living under its control, the court has provided further backing for this policy. We call on the international community to take concrete steps to ensure residents of the occupied Palestinian territory full, continuous, and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid and services; to protect the lives and rights of Palestinians; and to hold Israel accountable for its obligations as an occupying power under international law. The rising tide of fascism that has been fed by racist Western tech oligarchs, politicians, media corporations, and Israel regime proxies is no longer confined to Neo-Nazi marches, Zionist parades, MAGA rallies, and back-woods Klan meetings. We are seeing bloody pogroms from Belfast to the West Bank, police violence against human rights defenders in Berlin, London, and New York, the dismantling of free speech across the West, open attacks on minorities, Muslims, and migrants, mass surveillance and mass incarceration, far-right governments in Washington, Tel Aviv, Buenos Aires, Rome, Budapest, and beyond, serial aggression across Western Asia and Latin America, and ongoing genocide in Palestine. For those of you sleepwalking to a fascist dystopia, it’s time to wake up. Never doubt that you will eventually be in their gunsights as well.
