This morning, a fake email was sent to Labour MPs purporting to be from Mainstream. This was not sent from Mainstream and has been reported to the Police.
This morning, a fake email was sent to Labour MPs purporting to be from Mainstream, calling for a parliamentary walkout in November. This has been reported to the police. The email was not sent by Mainstream, or anyone associated with Mainstream. The address it was sent from is not one owned by us. Clearly, bad faith actors driven by factionalism are seeking to undermine the work that Mainstream is doing with MPs and others from all across the Labour Party to build the ideas, strategy and culture to make our time in government as transformative as possible - and put us on a firm footing in 2029.

🌹Mainstream's Interim Council sends its congratulations to @LucyMPowell, whom we endorsed after a ballot of our members. This result must mark a shift toward a broader, bolder politics within Labour - so that we can build a democratic socialist programme to inspire the country.
Mainstream’s Interim Council sends its congratulations to Labour’s new Deputy Leader, Lucy Powell, whom we endorsed after a ballot of our members. Lucy ran a positive campaign advocating for pluralism, democracy and a cultural course correction, pledging to bring members, affiliates and communities into Labour’s decision-making. Ending the two-child benefit limit, which we campaigned for at this year’s party conference, was also central to her campaign. Lucy’s victory today is a win for Labour’s mainstream. It shows that the majority of our movement wants Labour to be open, participatory and inclusive. Members have rejected the hyper-factional, top-down culture culpable for the missteps of our first year in government. The failed experiment in political centralisation being pursued by a tiny group at the top of the party must now end. The low turnout in this contest is a sign of the disillusionment and plummeting morale that this culture is provoking. This result must mark a shift.

The war in Gaza has gone on for too long.
Ceasefire and Hostage Deal: I welcome today’s news of the first phase of a Gaza ceasefire deal, and of release of hostages and prisoners. However, a full ceasefire is still necessary, alongside an immediate free flow of urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza. The UK must continue to support the recognition of a Palestinian statehood, and work to provide support to Gazans on the ground in the meantime.

We are appalled by today's attack at a synagogue in Manchester and extend our fullest solidarity to the victims, to their families and to the Jewish community. The horror of antisemitism must be rooted out in all its forms, wherever it rears its ugly head.

We're disappointed that the two-child benefit limit won't be debated at Labour Party Conference. Social justice must be returned to the heart of Labour's programme and the mainstream of our party, which overwhelmingly backs an end to the limit, must be heard.
