We see opera as part of an open, confident and cultured society. From baroque to classical, from grand opera to contemporary composers, the arts challenge us.

Please don't leave, friends! It's slow and difficult starting afresh, people are scattering across different platforms, and none of those yet function as well. There's still lots of good stuff here. Here's an idea: why not try to find five new, interesting people to follow today?

She is astounding in Elgar, Purcell, Britten and Berlioz. But it is her Mahler which touches me most of all: the humanity, the warmth, the incisive depths into the meaning of the texts and music. Happiest of birthdays to Janet Baker. 🙏

A very happy 91st to Dame Janet Baker! Icon of integrity. "Don't confuse your God-given talent with your self. Talent is something you're entrusted with: respect it. And don't believe your own publicity!" "You are the guide; whether the audience follows is solely down to you."

If a state school with these amazing ex pupils cannot see the value of music education, what hope is there? Deeply saddening.
Backstage at a concert in 2015 at my children’s school -Trinity in Nottingham. Now plans to drastically cut music and creative arts from this wonderful state school. Protest strike on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Where will the future of music come from?

To be fair, can we really expect a company almost entirely funded by one organisation to publicly attack that organisation?
