An expansion of child care in New York City could lift as many as 12,000 New Yorkers out of poverty every year, according to report by Robin Hood, the city’s largest poverty-fighting charity, and Columbia University’s Center on Poverty and Social Policy. subscriber.politicopro.com/a…

The City Council could vote to override Mayor Mamdani’s veto of 175-B as soon as this Thursday. If passed, this bill will be used to silence our First Amendment rights. Call your Council Member today and tell them to stand up for free speech and vote NO. dsa.nyc/175bcalls

If the goal is to create an environment where no immigrant is willing to brave a court date where they might be suddenly disappeared into detention by anonymous thugs, then ICE is succeeding. The only path forward is to get #ICEOut of our courts! amny.com/news/ice-detains-wo…

We are grateful that the Mayor has vetoed Intro 175B, protecting freedom of speech and worker power. We look forward to working with the administration to strengthen workers’ rights and preserve our Constitutional rights from federal attacks.
Last month, the City Council passed two bills related to the constitutional right to protest — one for houses of worship, and one for educational institutions. Today, I’m letting one bill go into effect, and vetoing the other. I’d like to take a moment to explain why. As Mayor, I will always make sure the right to protest, prayer and protection are guaranteed for every New Yorker.
Community note
Mamdani’s claim of vetoing one bill while “letting one bill go into effect” omits context: the houses of worship buffer-zone bill passed the City Council with a veto-proof 44–5 majority. Mamdani vetoed having buffer-zones at schools, which passed without a veto-proof majority. politico.com/news/2026/04/2…

📷 Take action today! Governor Hochul & state legislators are still negotiating the final FY 2027 budget. Tell them to include key updates to the NYS education funding formula, including adding a weight for students in temporary housing or foster care. actionnetwork.org/letters/te…

If a groundhog gets a day to predict the future, New Yorkers deserve a city that plans for one. Affordable housing, good transit, real public space — all year long.

Today, we joined the Committee on Equality in the Courts for an informative and empowering program, “What You Must Know When Representing Yourself in Court – Civil Matters.” Access to justice starts with access to information, and sessions like this help ensure New Yorkers are equipped with the knowledge and resources they need to confidently navigate the civil court system. Thank you to the Committee on Equality in the Courts, especially our Co-Chairs Justice Taylor and Justice McShan, and the fabulous Renee Hill of the Bronx County Bar Association, for organizing this important conversation.

Maria Sumba and Carmen Larino each lost a daughter to a traffic crash. Now, they're sharing their stories about why New York City needs universal daylighting. @NYCSpeakerAdams must bring Intro 1138 to a vote this session, to finally protect New Yorkers at every intersection.

When you kidnap a 7-year-old and send her across the country to a cage in Texas, you don't just traumatize that child. You terrorize her classmates, her family, and her whole community. We must fight this fascist violence with everything we have. thecity.nyc/2025/08/15/famil…
