The Lab had a blast last week: we started by learning about the intersection of public humanities and digital humanities; we ended by making a bot with @matthew_paul to discuss their deliberative possibilities. Thanks to our awesome speakers and participants!

This — major digitization grants are primarily institution based, so dispersed items being brought into “virtual” collections through digitization really need an anchor institution that has already 1. Has significant holdings. 2. Identified them as a meaningful collection.
#Digitization amplifies some voices and silences others. Great work to interrogate biases in digital archives by comparing how digitized and online newspapers relate to "the newspaper ‘population’ (i.e. all newspapers published)" during a specific era.

Podcasts offer a creative way to make classroom knowledge accessible to the public. The Spanish language podcasts on indigenous Mexican poetry created by Wendy Call’s students in Oaxaca exemplify how they also give us access to underrepresented voices. plu.edu/dhlab/faculty-develo…
