Dr. Jackie Stephens was recently an invited speaker at the DeWitt Goodman Seminar, hosted by the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center at @Columbia. The seminar series honors the legacy of DeWitt S. Goodman, a renowned scientist and public health advocate who was a leading expert in vitamin A and cholesterol metabolism. Goodman chaired the first National Cholesterol Education Program and played a pivotal role in developing the initial national guidelines for treating high blood cholesterol to prevent cardiovascular disease. Dr. Stephens holds the Claude B. Pennington, Jr. Endowed Chair in Biomedical Research at Pennington Biomedical, where she serves as Director of the Adipocyte Biology Laboratory and Principal Investigator of the Metabolic Basis of Disease Center. She currently serves as President of The Obesity Society.

Great work and summary by @carel_leroux
From the ADA Scientific Sessions, we are joined by Carel le Roux, who presented data from the SYNCHRONIZE trials of servodutide, a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist currently in development. Interesting analysis not just of weight-loss effects but specifially of visceral and liver fat levels. Yet more treatment options likely to be coming our way!

I am very proud to announce that I've been named the next Executive Director of the OU Health Harold Hamm Diabetes Center at the @UofOklahoma, effective September 1. It is the honor of a lifetime to lead a center built on Harold Hamm's extraordinary vision, alongside a team with the talent, resources, and ambition to take on diabetes at every level, from molecular discovery to caring for the patients who walk through our clinic doors. My charge is clear: to build the Center into a national engine for diabetes discovery, to recruit and mentor a world-class community of scientists, and to help Oklahoma reach its bold goal of reducing diabetes complications and deaths. Above all, my commitment is to turn that science into real, measurable gains for people living with this disease. To President Joe Harroz, Harold Hamm, and everyone who placed their faith in me, thank you. And to my friends and colleagues at Pennington Biomedical Research Center and across Louisiana, this has been a chapter I will fondly remember. Onward to the next chapter. Boomer Sooner!

We’ve know for yrs after bariatric surgery, patients lose>30% TBWL, but overall function IMPROVES. Some lean mass loss is ok. Still, exercise is important! @PBRCNews #adaSciSessions @ADA_DiabetesPro @ASMBS @IfsoSecretariat @ObesitySociety @ObesityAction @rvcohen @FRubinoMD
How concerned should we be about muscle loss during GLP-1 treatment? Pennington Biomedical's Dr. Eric Ravussin recently joined Dr. Samuel Klein at the 86th American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions to debate whether lean mass loss during treatment is an expected adaptation or an underrecognized concern. Watch the discussion and hear both perspectives on one of the most important questions in obesity research today. youtube.com/watch?v=8HEPSyB0…
