Singaporean AI researchers are kind of rare. Over the years, many people have asked me if I know other Singaporean AI researchers working on the bleeding age.
Here's a thread introducing some of these Singaporean AI researchers who I know of that are doing amazing work!
👇
1) Koh Jing Yu (
@kohjingyu) at CMU who worked on Pathdreamer and Parti at Google (
jykoh.com/)
2) Koh Pang Wei (
@PangWeiKoh) at Google/UW who works on reliable ML and won the best paper at ICML. (
koh.pw/)
3) Shawn Tan (
@tanshawn) at MILA who works on NLP and won the best paper at ICLR for the ordered neurons work (
blog.wtf.sg/).
4) Alvin Chan (
@a1vinchan) at MIT who works on designing medical nanoparticles with deep learning (
alvinchan.io/).
5) Jason Phang (
@zhansheng) at NYU/EleutherAI who works on LLMs and NLP (
jasonphang.com/).
Singapore has a lot going for it. Great food, clean AF, low taxes, it's also uber safe. Sadly, AI research is not one of them. It's noisy, and sometimes iffy 😅😅.
As such, younger local Singaporeans (e.g., undergrads) don't really know where to look.
I hope this list gives some grounding & inspiration to the younger (Singaporean) generation who are looking for role models or references.
You're welcome 😀.
