Amanda H. never expected that a personal connection would lead her to become a passionate advocate for
#pancreaticcancer patients and families. đź’ś
Kathleen became a close friend and an important part of Amanda's life over the years.
In 2021, Kathleen was diagnosed with stage II pancreatic cancer after what initially seemed like a stomach flu turned out to be something much more serious. As her family navigated the challenges of treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic, Amanda searched for answers and support.
That's when she found PanCAN.
Through PanCAN Patient Services and PurpleStride, Amanda discovered a community that provided guidance during an incredibly difficult time. Sadly, Kathleen passed away less than a week before
#PanCANPurpleStride 2022.
"It was so alarming to have this vibrant person disappear before our eyes and feel like there was nothing that we could do about it," Amanda shared.
Inspired by the support she received, Amanda became a
#PanCANvolunteer, helping with awareness initiatives, community outreach and PurpleStride engagement. What started as a way to give back quickly grew into a passion for connecting with others affected by pancreatic cancer.
Today, Amanda serves as Chair of PanCAN's Atlanta Affiliate, where she is focused on growing the volunteer community, strengthening connections with healthcare professionals and creating meaningful opportunities for people to engage with PanCAN year-round.
From helping bring PurpleLight back to Atlanta to developing a long-term strategy for the affiliate's growth, Amanda is committed to ensuring more families have access to resources, support and hope.
"I want to do whatever I can to make sure that no one else has to walk along the same path we did."
Thank you, Amanda, for your leadership, compassion and dedication to changing the future for everyone impacted by pancreatic cancer. Read more of Amanda's story at đź”—
