83% of all property investor spending goes towards existing dwellings, while only 10% goes towards construction of new dwellings and 7% goes towards newly built homes. The idea capping rents will "affect supply" is a complete joke.

Not to be alarmist but…this is what’s called a six-sigma event, now unfolding in Antarctica. Otherwise known as a once-in-7.5-million-year event. Hang onto your hats. HT @EliotJacobson

a small appreciation post: I wouldn’t be here doing this if I didn’t see what #NotMyDebt was doing. many others were inspired into advocacy & activism after seeing what they did with no institutional backing. it provided a blueprint for change & meaningful political engagement

Millions of people are one rent increase away from eviction or financial stress. Now is the time for the PM to act and coordinate a national rent freeze 🏠

So many ‘progressives’, regurgitate the fallacy that housing supply is causing the housing crisis. Then they bash councils for blocking supply. This is complete rubbish. Here’s my take on the issue in @BrunswickVoice brunswickvoice.com.au/buildi…

“We've built anywhere between 150k to 240k new homes every single year for the past decade & you know what, it's not making housing any cheaper… wealthier people are taking up more & more space & they're hoarding more & more homes." – @MaiyAzize sbs.com.au/news/article/find…

BREAKING: Today the Greens have revised our demands in exchange for passing Labor’s deeply flawed housing bill straight away. This is a compromise that focuses on tackling the housing crisis immediately. We’re now asking for 2 things: 🧵

Another woman’s social security payment cut by a #ParentsNext “provider”. She has cancer. Might die, but @AustralianLabor think it’s best to cut her payments so maybe her kids will die too.

New research from @TheAusInstitute shows that on top of paying no tax Australia's gas export industry is 95.7% foreign owned! So Australia receives no tax revenue and the vast majority of gas export profits go offshore!

The media are disgusting at the moment. The constant stream of propaganda for the monarchy encourages mindless servility. Our world is troubled by many serious issues that demand urgent action and this media spectacle is diverting attention away from matters we should not forget

This is shameful.
Why has @unionsaustralia reversed its previous support for a payment at the level of the poverty line? It's hard not to feel like @ACOSS have essentially negotiated to reduce support for demands that better reflect what welfare recipients want and deserve.

Single person households are totally ignored in our political and economic discourse. It's like they don't exist. Everything is focused on "families".

I think people think "long Covid" is just fatigue, brain fog, and associated post acute phase complications, rather than the myriad of long term possible risks, such as auto immune diseases, Parkinson's, clotting, heart disease, reduction in brain function, and increasingly more
