Here is a summary of all the overtures that came before the 92nd General Assembly (GA) of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) as of this evening, and whether they succeeded or failed. The Assembly adjourns tomorrow and has no more overtures on its docket:
Overture 1 (from the Presbytery of the Southwest):
Succeeded (approved).
This overture called for the formation of a special study committee to examine biblical and confessional teachings on church-state relations, with a focus on Christian Nationalism. The Assembly approved it and elected a five-member committee (plus two alternates): David Van Drunen, Alan Strange, Lane Tipton, Darryl Hart, David Innes, Zach Lautenschlager, and David Noe. The committee is to report to the 93rd GA in 2027.
Overture 2 (from the Presbytery of Philadelphia):
Succeeded (both parts adopted).
The overture had two distinct parts and was divided for separate consideration. The first part called for the OPC to join with sister NAPARC churches in condemning theological or political teachings that posit the superiority of one race or ethnic identity (drawing from a similar ARP overture). This was approved.
The second part requested a study committee to examine all forms of racial prejudice and related matters and bring recommendations to the 93rd GA (2027). This was also approved (a committee of five plus two alternates was established).
Overture 4 (from the Presbytery of the Dakotas):
Failed (denied).
This overture asked the Assembly to cease publication of Ordained Servant (the OPC’s quarterly journal for church officers) no later than December 31, 2026, and to require that any future journal or magazine aimed primarily at officers be approved by a future GA vote. The stated grounds cited recent articles (especially the March 2026 issue) that were viewed as scandalous, contrary to confessional Presbyterianism, or otherwise problematic. The motion to grant the overture failed without audible affirmation (i.e., it was overwhelmingly denied).
