It was all in a day's work for our busy Pest Free Hibiscus Coast (PFHC) team 🐾 when they hosted Forest & Bird CE Nicola Toki and a bunch of passionate young nature-lovers from Gulf Harbour School! 🧒👧🌱
🐦From hihi stitchbird to kererū, and everything in between – Nicola joined 14 students soaking up the sights and sounds of Shakespear Open Sanctuary’s thriving ecosystem 🌳
Nicola spent time with our Pest Free Hibiscus Coast team in te ngahere at Ōrewa – where she and PFHC Community Activator, Charlie Thomas, shared a moment with a stunning pūriri moth and checked out the rat traps 🪤
Nicola connected with project volunteers, branch members, and Auckland Council staff. Check out the photo of her with Dan Marrow, Auckland Council Local Parks Ranger (she signed his copy of her 'Critters of Aotearoa' book 📖🖊️).
She was also able to thank the Hibiscus & Bays Local Board 🙌, key funders of the Pest Free Hibiscus Coast project at a presentation led by Project Manager Jenny Hanwell.
We’re so grateful to everyone who made the day special – especially the volunteers and our funders who keep this vital mahi going 💚
Pest Free Hibiscus Coast (PFHC) is one of six National Conservation Projects that Forest & Bird is responsible for. We're committed to supporting communities to nurture thriving ecosystems through programmes like PFHC 🌱
