"They spent years analyzing the boy, while completely ignoring the tank.
Faris Odeh was only 15 years old when this iconic photo was taken during the Second Intifada. Days later, on November 8, 2000, he was killed.
For over two decades, mainstream media, psychologists, and historians have tried to analyze him. They called him a “daredevil.” They tried to decode why a child would stand before a battle tank with nothing but a stone.
But the math is actually very simple. Power always interrogates the methods of the oppressed, but it rarely questions the machinery of the oppressor. Faris wasn’t confused, and he wasn’t looking for an adrenaline rush.
He was a child born into an impossible reality who chose to stand his ground against overwhelming odds. 24 years later, the world is still trying to blame the stone and ignore the tank.
History refuses to forget the unbroken spirit of Faris Odeh.
