The ongoing West Asia crisis is an important warning on India’s energy dashboard. India imports over 87% of its crude oil requirements. This crisis can be a huge opportunity.  A five-point agenda, comprising 100% electrification of two- and three-wheelers by 2030, CAFE-3, electrification of buses and trucks, a Right to Charge, and a Bharat battery ecosystem, is what the country needs right now. These measures must move together.   Delivering transformational change at scale is not new to India. It has done so before: Jan Dhan Yojana, UPI, solar energy, vaccination, and the shift from Euro IV to Euro VI while bypassing Euro V, among others. What is needed now is a similar level of clarity and execution in the EV transition. Today’s decisive action will shape supply chains, capital flows, and technological leadership for decades to come.  My edit piece in today’s HT:

This is what Majority chargers installed by Govt agencies are good for - To boast about the numbers and for babus to write in their files. Not even 20% of the claimed 27,432 OMC chargers are working properly 🤦🏻‍♂️. A good portion isn't energised and others simply don't work.

On Dec 8, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Car Accident A car travelling from Nagpur to Pune crashed into the central divider near Bangav Lahuki Phata after the driver failed to notice a speed breaker. The vehicle caught fire within seconds. All five passengers managed to jump out in time, which saved them from severe burns. The car, however, was completely gutted. This is the third accident at the same spot caused by the speed breaker, and travellers are demanding that the highway authorities take immediate action. #samruddhimahamarg
