Dual Degree in MA in Public Policy and International Relations Programme offered by the School of Public Policy and Governance at TISS Hyderabad and Macquarie University provides a unique opportunity that sets students to study and connect linkages between micro (local), meso (national and regional) and macro (international/global). As a part of the mandate, the students participated in a Rural Experiential Learning visit to the Kunthi district of Jharkhand in collaboration with Equivoice Alliance Foundation, where they got a hands-on understanding of policies and policy institutions in a rural setting. The students conducted extensive fieldwork across 500 households, examining the provisioning of health, education and civic amenities while unravelling the underlying social dynamics, such as gender and other identity markers and the ensuing power relations. Most of these were elicited through participatory approaches. The students shared their findings with the district, block and cluster-level officials. His Lecture “Emerging Technologies Reshaping Public Policy: Challenges and Opportunities” was an intellectual treat to budding policy professionals. The School of Public Policy and Governance is delighted to announce Dr @TiwariPaul as the esteemed speaker for its 91st perspective lecture – ‘Emerging Technologies Reshaping Public Policy: Challenges and Opportunities.’ Dr. Siddhartha Paul Tiwari is a technology and education expert who leads Google Asia Pacific's Mobile Policy for South East Asia, China, Japan, and Korea from Singapore. Previously, he managed Google's global learning initiatives in Tokyo. He is an Elected Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute and Royal Asiatic Society for his contributions to social sciences and Asian studies. He has developed 40 postgraduate courses on emerging technologies at Asian universities and speaks at global forums like TEDx, G20, and UN. "As we don't usually have a way of earning, with the Rs.1875 loan from our Self-Help Group (SHG), we've started backyard poultry. Whenever we need money, we can sell the chickens and earn a decent income." Take a dive into the entrepreneurial endeavors of rural women from marginalized communities in the Lambhua block, Sultanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. Created during an internship with The/Nudge Institute by six students from the School of Public Policy and Governance, the video documents the narratives of rural women entrepreneurs, as they navigate and thrive in backyard poultry farming. The initiative, part of Project Asha Kiran, is a collaborative effort between The/Nudge Institute and the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM). This documentary illuminates their lived experiences, challenges, and triumphs, underscoring the transformative impact of such livelihood projects on women's economic empowerment and community development. Through rigorous analysis of datasets from the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and Forest Survey of India (FSI), he examined critical environmental indicators including precipitation patterns, temperature variations, and atmospheric quality metrics across the region. His comprehensive analysis revealed concerning trends in climate variability, highlighting increased vulnerability to extreme weather events and documenting a significant reduction in forest coverage.
