PollutionDAO is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) focused on reducing #pollution to protecting public health and the #environment. Joins us!
We reached over 700 million people around the world last month with the release of a new report in @TheLancetPlanet detailing the progress made (and not made) on the global pollution crisis.

This is an important development in our global fight against pollution. High-level initiatives like this can seem too removed from problems on the ground to make a difference, but they are important tools to motivate decision-makers and provide justification for increased action.
Is a DAO an effective organizational structure to fight #pollution? Honestly, we're not sure, but experimenting with emerging tools to augment existing efforts and bring in new actors seems like a worthy endeavor. One thing is clear: we need to do more.

The study authors came up with eight recommendations to reduce pollution deaths...
"We absolutely know how to solve each one of those problems... What's missing is political will." -- Richard Fuller, CEO Pure Earth and lead author of study. cbsnews.com/news/global-poll…
The landmark Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health has been updated. The TL/DR: pollution now causes 1 in 6 deaths. In addition to air pollution, lead exposure is the largest driver of disability and death among all chemicals.

💯🎯. Integrating blood lead level testing into existing national health surveys in low- and middle-income countries unlocks the potential for much more efficient interventions to prevent #leadexposure and #leadpoisoning. Brilliantly argued and 100% needed.🤝

An obscene number of children around the world are lead poisoned--almost all of whom live in LMICs. But we don't actually know who, where, how, or how many. And without that basic foundational understanding, it's hard to start addressing the problem.

Combating #lead adulteration in food may be one of the most cost-effective measures to reduce the staggering prevalence of #leadpoisoning in low- and middle-income countries. Spice interventions are a promising, replicable intervention model.

When the Republic of Georgia found that 41% of children in the country were lead poisoned, they realized they needed to act. In under 2 years, Pure Earth investigators were able help to stem the source of poisoning. Read this success story: bit.ly/3yRqWKD#LeadSolutions

This roadmap to reduce childhood #leadexposure is well-considered and aligns with the approaches of other expert groups, such as @PureEarthNow. USAID could show extraordinary leadership by including blood lead testing in the Demographic Health Survey, and should. #leadpoisoning
Lead poisoning is damaging children’s futures around the globe, and particularly in low- and middle-income countries. This is an unacceptable situation that demands action. With @Day1Project we have produced a roadmap to eliminate lead exposure.🧵dayoneproject.org/post/elimi…
