Does promoting democracy in a rising authoritarian power work? In a new paper in PoP, I test it using the US Embassy in China's pro-democracy posts on Chinese social media. Results from two survey experiments in 2018 and 2021 are sobering and counter-intuitive
Why has the US federal minimum wage stagnated since 2009? We argue the answer lies in institutions. Vesting wage-setting authority in Congress multiplies veto points and diffuses electoral accountability for wage stagnation.

Paul Kelly's 'Against Post-Liberalism' is one of the most important critiques of postliberalism.
But I worry he has refuted postliberalism only "for the left".

Very proud to see this article co-authored with @tpenig finally out in @PoPpublicsphere. It's been a long time coming! We argue that the 2019-20 French #Climate Convention placed its 150 randomly selected citizens in the new and ambitious position of what we conceptualize as "citizen legislators." We also argue that this was in part possible due to the implicit norm and (for the most part) practice of a design principle we identify as "citizens on top, experts on tap." For all the criticisms it received at the time this French #citizensassembly was truly path-breaking in ways that have not been replicated since (in France at least).
1/ We define pseudo fact checking as the use of fact checking formats by authoritarian governments to discredit criticism and reinforce official narratives. Russia is a prime example: War on Fakes, Anti-Fake, Stop Fake - entire industries mimicking independent fact checkers.
A new paper with @mzavadsk is out in @PoPpublicsphere! Since 2022, the Kremlin has turned pseudo fact checking into a key propaganda strategy. But how does it affect citizens? We run an experiment to answer this Q (10/):
