Carney: Canada is a mosaic, not a melting pot. And this is the distinction that matters. Because a mosaic doesn't dissolve or blend its pieces. Each is stitched to each and all the pieces hold all. And the beauty is in the arrangement, not in the blending.

Today, the Kremlin staged a propaganda event in which soldiers assured Putin that things at the front are going well and Ukraine will be probably be surrendering any day now.

Russia’s terror campaign against Ukrainian civilians echoes some of the darkest chapters of 20th-century warfare. Deliberate attacks on cities, intimidation of the population, deportations, torture, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure are tactics that belong in history’s most notorious playbooks, not in modern Europe.
Russia launched 12 KAB bombs on Vasylkivka, Dnipropetrovsk region. One person killed, 13 more injured. A residential building and a market severely damaged. Russian horror on Ukrainian civilians.

One of the most fascinating things about some self-proclaimed nationalists is how selective their nationalism is. When it comes to the EU, they talk about national sovereignty around the clock. Every directive is portrayed as an attack on self-determination. Every compromise between democratic member states is framed as a threat to the nation. But when Russia invades Ukraine and tries to decide the country's future with tanks, something strange happens. Suddenly, national self-determination is no longer quite so important. Ukrainians are told they should "understand Russia's security concerns," "accept reality," or negotiate away parts of their territory. It is a curious form of nationalism that rages against voluntary cooperation between European democracies, yet shrugs when an authoritarian neighbor tries to crush a nation's independence by force. If you truly believe in nationalism, Ukraine's right to determine its own future should be self-evident. If that principle applies only to some nations but not others, it is not nationalism. It is geopolitical bias disguised as principle. Nationalism seems to be an absolute value right up until the moment the Kremlin dislikes it. After that, it quickly becomes a recommendation.

The Kharkiv Art Museum after today's Russian attack. Destroying Ukrainian history, art, language, and cultural identity is a page from an old Russian playbook. Cultural genocide is what they do.

Toxic rain falls on Russia. 🇷🇺 Ukrainians 🇺🇦 ask: Should we pause the fight? The answer is written in fire. 270 drones just reminded Putin that war doesn’t take holidays. The sky burns, the message is clear: Surrender or ashes. #NoDayOff ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Just back from DocuDays UA in Kyiv, where Don't Ask Me If I Killed by Helena Maksyom had its world premiere. Won Best Film in the Ukrainian competition and Best Editing. A standing ovation. Soldiers, civilians and foreign guests in the same room, watching a film that speaks to their shared experience of these years. Afterward, meeting families of those who didn't come back, some of whose names are in the end credits. Helena spent three and a half years on the front, in places like Pokrovsk, Bakhmut and Zaporizhzhia, fighting for her home and those she loves. This film carries that with it. Some filmmakers round off the edges of their convictions to avoid making audiences uncomfortable. Helena doesn't have that luxury, and wouldn't take it if she did. Sometimes, to preserve humanity, it isn't enough to hide behind a camera. Sometimes you pick up a weapon and fight the forces that want to drag the world back into chaos. Ukrainians have lost an enormous amount, but they are not broken. If anything, they are stronger and more determined to preserve their nation with dignity and grace. They will not be beaten. The film's international premiere is coming soon, with broadcast and streaming across Europe this winter. Glory to Ukraine.

And despite much of Europe's best efforts to avoid doing anything for so long. Better late than never I suppose, as with so much in this war. It would have been over long ago had the shadow fleet been shut down and the entire Russian energy sector sanctioned appropriately.
I am grateful to the UK for taking this important step against Russia’s oil fleet – a shadow fleet tanker has been detained off the UK's southern coast. It was Russia’s hubris, fueled by high oil and gas revenues, that paved the way for this war, and every decision by partners that deprives Russia of money also limits the war itself. I thank @Keir_Starmer and all Britons for such principled resolve. And Europe urgently needs to take legislative steps to enable not only the detention of tankers and restrictions on oil shipments, but also the confiscation of the oil they carry. This will certainly help bring peace closer.

And here we see the 3rd phase weapons of the Ukrainian campaign to logistically isolate Russian Army units on the Kinburn Split. Ukrainian Boat-drones are acting as drone tenders for 1st person view (FPV) or Vampire 1/2
❗️The unmanned surface system “Barracuda” of the 🇺🇦40th Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian Navy is now being used not only on rivers, but also in the bay near the Kinburn Spit. In addition to FPV drones, it can launch heavy bomber copters.

A plumber knows more about plumbing than you. A pilot knows more about flying than you. A scientist usually knows more about science than you. That doesn’t make them automatically right. But it does mean the burden of proof is on the person claiming thousands of experts got it wrong. Science isn’t a democracy. It’s not decided by likes, vibes, or confidence. It’s decided by evidence. And evidence doesn’t care who wins the argument.
