Our College has a new Dean.
Congratulations Prof Chakraborty!
We’re delighted to announce that Professor Nandini Chakraborty has been elected as the next Dean of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, after a ballot with a turnout of 21.1% and a total of 3,674 votes cast.
The position of Dean is one of the most senior roles in the College and plays a significant part in our efforts to ensure our workforce meets the needs of communities across the UK.
The Dean also provides strategic leadership on psychiatric training and supports the development of a valued and sustainable workforce.
Professor Chakraborty will take up her post at the AGM on 16 June, succeeding Professor Subodh Dave who was elected the College’s next President in April.

I will repeat- if @NHSE_WTE @NHSEngland @DHSCgovuk
spent a fraction of their energy in supporting SAS colleagues compared to the desperate attempts to have lesser trained people do healthcare beyond their scope?
The #NHS would be a far better place
And safer.
It’s also no surprise why they don’t.
The exact same reason LED doctors are treated the way they are.

Today, we’re proud to launch Breaking the Cycle - a new report from @rcpsych, @lookaheadtweets and the @natfednews on the vital role of supported housing in mental health discharge.
The report shows that shortages in supported housing are leaving people stuck in hospital long after they are clinically ready to leave – putting huge pressure on the NHS and delaying recovery.
📉 In 2024/25 alone, delayed discharge linked to housing shortages led to 121,695 additional mental health bed days, costing the NHS an estimated £102m a year.
🏠 Supported housing isn’t just cheaper than inpatient care – it enables people to recover, rebuild their lives and thrive in the community.
👉 Housing must be treated as healthcare.
