The Knicks' 29-point comeback proves it: Don't look at the scoreboard, look at the next play. šŸ€ This week’s Torah portion (Shlach) teaches the same lesson: The spies retreated when they saw giants, but the real leaders stayed players. Don't just watch the game of life—play your point. Every small "Mitzvah" changes the score. šŸ“œāœØ Candle lighting in St. John's is at 8:41 pm Shabbat ends at 10:02 pm Shabbat Shalom!

As a follow up to the Aaron Kodesh (holy ark that houses the Torah scrolls) post from a few weeks ago, the sponsorship is still available 😊 You can honour a loved one at a much lower price than in a bigger community.

This week's Parsha is Behaloscha Real impact is a relay race, not a solo act. The goal isn't to hold the light forever; it’s to pass the spark so effectively that the other person doesn't need you anymore. Go ignite someone's potential today. At every stop along their journey, whether it was for a year or for one day, the Children of Israel set up the Tabernacle and made all their offerings. Because they knew that they had been brought to this place by a divine hand, and so there must be purpose in this place, here, now. Which teaches that in every journey of your life you must be where you are. It may seem that you are only passing through on your way to somewhere else—but in truth there is purpose, divine purpose, in wherever you are right now. Listen, learn, heal, plant seeds and water them. Neither you nor this place must stay the same.

This week's Parsha is Nasso Anxiety often comes from focusing on what we lack rather than what we have. Even a simple glass of water is a marvel. When we pause to appreciate the Gd’s wonders, we realize how cared for we truly are Life isn't meant for constant deprivation—it's meant to be enjoyed. This week’s challenge: Before enjoying something "simple," take a moment to reflect on how incredible it is, and see it as a direct expression of love. Gratitude changes everything. ✨ Candle lighting in St. John's is at 8:30 pm Shabbat ends at 9:49 pm Shabbat Shalom!

It was an honour and a privilege to host Holocaust survivor Mrs Tuky Treitel here in St. John's. Monday Morning May 25th, Mrs Treitel spoke in front of 800 students at Holy Heart. Monday Night May 25th was the main talk, open to the public - we had a beautiful full house at MUN's Bruneau Centre. Thank you Government of Newfoundland and Labrador for supporting this project year over year. Thank you Minister Lin Paddock, MPA, CPA for your support and opening words. #DiversityNL

Terror alert! Tomorrow, I'm being interviewed by two Zionists, @benshapiro and @Emilyaustin, on their respective shows. They believe that Jews have a right to self-determination on their ancestral lands. They believe that Jews should have the same rights as every other peoples, self-autonomy. I'm terrified. Please pray for me as I face these two Zionists.

After 9 years of using a Walmart closet, it's time for Chabad to purchase a proper Aron Kodesh (Ark to host the Torah scroll/s). We are super excited (look at the pics below) as it will really enhance our space and the "shul feeling" at Chabad. If you are interested in being a sponsor, either fully or partially, please reach out! It's a tremendous mitzvah, specially in our remote community. The pictures are from Chabad of Downtown Toronto Mendel Chaikin - the muse for our very own Aron Kodesh.

This week's Parsha is Bamidbor True value isn’t found in the car you drive or the job you hold—those can vanish in an instant. Real identity is rooted in something deeper and enduring. This Shavuot, we celebrate the Torah as the timeless soul of the Jewish people Candle lighting in St. John's at 8:14 pm Shabbat ends at 9:29 pm Shabbat Shalom!

There are questions to which G‑d says to be quiet, to be still, to cease to ask. The quietness, the stillness, the abandonment of being, that itself is an answer. And so G‑d said to Moses, ā€œBe silent. This is beyond any thought.ā€

Heartbroken and furious at the same time over another attack on a Canadian synagogue by thugs who target the innocent at prayer. You can’t spend decades hollowing out a national identity, tell people shared values are the problem, then act shocked when hate fills the void. Antisemites are doing this. And governments too spineless to name them or defend what Canada once stood for is giving them the room to flourish. Cue the ā€œthoughts and prayersā€ chorus. Again.

In this week’s Parsha (Behar-Bechukosai), we learn the prohibition against charging interest. Why? Because we aren’t meant to profit from "doing nothing." The lesson: True fulfillment is earned, not given. We value what we work for, and "bread of shame" tastes bitter. Reward follows effort. Candle lighting in St. John's is at 8:05 pm Shabbat ends at 9:18 pm Shabbat Shalom!

Here is Gaza. Destroyed by Israel. According to antisemites, this destruction explains or justifies attacks on random Jewish people in the UK. Except it's not Gaza. I lied. It's actually Homs, in Syria. Destroyed by Assad. Nobody ever attacked random Syrians over this.

Meet Lina Chu (@lina__chu). As a Ukrainian with Vietnamese roots, Lina’s identity has always been a bridge between cultures—but when the invasion began, that identity became her strength. From participating in the resistance against Russia to building a new life right here in Newfoundland, Lina’s journey over the last year and a half is one of incredible resilience. We talk about art as activism, the weight of displacement, and what it’s like to call NL home after everything. open.spotify.com/episode/15k…

Today is Pesach Sheni, the "Second Passover," a day that carries a powerful, universal message: It is never too late. No one is ever written off. In the spirit of "Love your fellow as yourself," we are called to practice unconditional love—the kind that doesn't need to be earned and doesn't fade when faults appear. Just as we love ourselves despite our own flaws, let’s choose to see others as an extension of our own family. One heart, one soul. Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom of second chances and radical kindness. šŸ•ÆļøāœØ Candle lighting in St. John's is at 7:55 pm Shabbat ends at 9:07 pm Shabbat Shalom!
