NEW: Today, Pope Leo XIV posed with the New York Knicks jersey. After asking Leo for a miracle, Spike Lee credits the U.S.-born pontiff’s blessing over the team with helping them win their first NBA title since 1973.

This guy would be so happy tonight. Thinking of Al and all the Knicks players and announcers who tried to bring some hope over the years. They finally did it.

Charles Oakley got the last laugh on Dolan. He got to be in the building to see the Knicks win a championship. Salute.

The stakes are incredibly high for low-income families, grocery stores, schools, and the broader economy as states like Alabama now face massive new costs to continue SNAP under H.R. 1 — while other states get a temporary reprieve thanks to a special carveout in the law.
Alabama officials warn that the coming changes to SNAP cost-sharing requirements could lead to dire consequences in the state. #ALPolitics aldailynews.com/alabama-offi…

As part of H.R. 1, as of 10/1, states need to cover 75% of SNAP admin costs - up from 50%. The state budget does not include this add'l funding - nor does the NYC Exec budget. In NYC alone, it's more than $110M. We need money for food but also to keep SNAP running.
The mayor and governor are working to meet food demand amid new federal SNAP restrictions, as 450,000 people across the state are set to lose government health coverage. thecityreporter.nyc/2026/06/…

Hmmmm....did 700,000 children simply not apply?

Rollins: No one was kicked off of SNAP. If they are not on SNAP, they have chosen not to reapply or they are an able bodied adult that can work.

I have a few suggestions! 1. Eliminate SNAP cost-sharing and increased work requirements for parents. 2. Mandate Summer EBT for all states. 3. Provide free school meals for every student. 4. Increase the SNAP benefit. 5. NAP to SNAP! Call me Madam Secretary - happy to chat more!
Secretary Rollins tells the Senate Agriculture Committee that “no one wants kids to be hungry.” In just the 12 states with available data, the number of children receiving SNAP has fallen by more than 700,000 since the deepest SNAP cuts in history were enacted in H.R. 1.

Thank you @CMLindaLee for asking about cost-share of SNAP admin. Funding for staff is great but @NYCBudget needs to find $100M by 10/1 to keep the program running. We need a real dialogue - we can't play games with people's ability to put food on the table.

these funds, it means NYC must find the funding to keep the program running. @NYCBudget didn't answer the question - great that NYC investing $70M in jobs but this $100M investment is REQUIRED to keep SNAP running due to federal cruelty.

These funds should not be subject to the "budget dance" - never ever play games with people's ability to afford food. Need NYC (and all counties) to create a plan and find funds to keep program moving.
