This has been a response of many firsts: Such as First time a Marburg patient is intubated and extubated successfully. It also recorded impressive indicators like very high recovery rate(over 70%), and outbreak contained within 3 months! Morakoze cyane!! #SSOX
Watch Dr @RamadanOtim, Health Emergency Officer at @WHOAFRO, reflect on lessons learned in responding to and bringing the #Marburg outbreak in #Rwanda to an end. These include: ✅ Rapid response ✅ Contact tracing ✅ Preparedness in urban settings ✅ Rapid scale up of care ✅ Infection prevention & control

Ebola outbreak latest: a massive push for early testing and contact tracing is helping to contain the deadly virus, says WHO's Dr Abdirahman Mahamud, speaking from Bunia in DR Congo's Ituri province news.un.org/en/story/2026/06…

A critical point from Ramadan Otim: people exposed to #Ebola do not transmit the virus during the incubation period, which can last between 2 and 21 days. Transmission begins only after symptoms develop, making early identification and isolation of symptomatic individuals one of the most effective ways to interrupt the chain of transmission. #BundibugyoVirus Otim also highlighted a major diagnostic challenge: the symptoms of Bundibugyo virus disease closely resemble those of many common tropical illnesses. Fatigue, fever, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and diarrhoea are among the most frequently reported symptoms. Bleeding, often associated with Ebola, occurs less commonly in Bundibugyo cases, making clinical diagnosis more difficult. #EbolaOutbreak There is currently no approved vaccine or specific treatment for Bundibugyo virus disease. However, candidate vaccines and therapeutics are being actively explored, with clinical trial protocols under development in partnership with the governments of DRC and Uganda. Encouragingly, recoveries already recorded in both countries show that timely and intensive supportive care can save lives.

Replying to @MR_Belizaire
Uganda has recorded 19 confirmed cases of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease, with 14 imported directly from the DRC. Of the five locally transmitted cases, all were linked to healthcare workers who cared for patients arriving from the DRC. Four people have recovered, and health authorities report that transmission chains remain well understood. Providing an outbreak overview, @RamadanOtim, Program Area Manager for Outbreak and Humanitarian Response at @WHOAFRO, noted that the Bundibugyo virus has only been associated with three recorded outbreaks: Uganda in 2007, DRC in 2012, and the current outbreak. The virus is believed to originate in fruit bats and can spread to humans through contact with infected animals. Human-to-human transmission occurs through direct contact with the body fluids of a person who is symptomatic.
