I was an enlisted United States Infantryman. I studied my trade. I also studied military history, because the history of mankind started with histories of war. I have always been jealous of the guys who went to college and got a classical education. I have been jealous of those officers who graduated from the Officer Education System. So I studied mostly on my own. Turned down OCS and a reserve commission because I was stupid. I did manage to become credible military training curricula developer. Became the Chief, NCO Future for TRADOC.
But I remain jealous of the education and knowledge of those who served as officers.
So, a place to start studying for those like me. I would only add one thing to the list - The Guns of August, by Barbara Tuchman.
