Downside to the Mourinho approach is some guys will be hard to resell. But he’s clearly betting that he can fix the team with veterans, hierarchy, authority. Whether that will be enough to cut out Vinicius/Mbappe ball centric tendencies and fighting or defensive flaws is the Q.
Well Cucurella is a Mourinho signing. No more excuses for the back line in theory. But the price does dictate how this can be viewed. If he’s anywhere close to 50-55m that’s a huge overpay. 20-25 would be a deal. Let’s see where it landed. Defense is where we should save money.

You can win individual games with Cucurella, and a Euros, but repeatedly over the course of a long club season? He hasn’t quite lived up to the tenacity and quality he displayed during his Getafe days.
Onus is on him to shift his error prone trajectory at Real Madrid.
Well done Chelsea fans, you’re free. Free of a defender with average risk management as he’s too aggressive, average defensive positioning & a net negative in possession. If this is the first transfer of “sporting director Xabi” taking the reigns, then it is a very positive step.

I'd happily sell Cucurella. Like I said elsewhere, I respect him for salvaging his career, but he's routinely the worst technical player on the pitch. I'd move him on when his value is still high. Hall is a definitive upgrade, always has been.
Selling Enzo is a no-go.

Arbeloa getting another job was inevitable. Now he is in the Premier League alongside Xabi Alonso. And we hired a coach none of those teams would consider to replace him.
Fulham will be interesting to follow next season. Gonna be tuning into Fulham-Chelsea matches 👀.

I interviewed a footballer this week and in our conversation I asked him about Alvaro Arbeloa as he played against his Castilla side this week.
The first thing he did was rave about the midfield that day and tell me they were the best team he's witnessed play.
His team couldn't get the ball off them and Thiago Pitarch was a joke he was so good.
Three of that midfield four played yesterday, it's why I have over time come to accept that B teams in the Spanish system have big benefits in terms of development.

Pretty crazy stat. Leon Rose deserves his flowers. When Brunson first signed with the Knicks in 2022, there were claims of nepotistic intent. He has turned the franchise around from the literal bottom of the league.
