Politics in Kenya Explained

DEAR WORLD HERE is the paradox in Kenya's 2027 presidential election. The incumbent President desperately wants the chief opposition figure to be on the ballot. The supporters of the chief opposition figure don't want him on the ballot. Very interesting. In other African countries, the incumbent President ensures the main opposition leader is either barred or completely abstracted from running. We are facing the complete opposite scenario in Kenya. The sitting president is even ready to buy out all other candidates to ensure he is only left with his former deputy in the race. On the other hand the supporters of the former deputy president (who are about 12million in number) don't want to hear he can be on the ballot.

The problem with this kind of thinking is it insists that Kenyans are the only people who do this stuff and then moves on to argue that because of that, there is something inherently and essentially wrong with Kenyans as People (capital P). That argument is fundamentally racist.
Kuna watu who will never want to see or believe that Kenyans are mostly chaotic people when it comes to some social ills. Has nothing to do with structural or systemic issues.

Imagine in 2017 if SCORK had ruled that the electoral board committed irregularities & illegalities but the results still hold. We may not like Wamunyoro but the High Court just set a very dangerous precedent on rule of law. One we are sure will definitely be abused.

Conservatives lack self reflection and believe they are superior in the human hierarchy. That's why they are obsessed with individual responsibility, as if there's a functional country that runs on individual good behaviour. Maybe Kenya will shock the world and be the first
One defining characteristic of the ngubu is a lack of accountability/ agency. Always quick to excuse away personal bad behavior in favor of ‘structural’ issues That’s my contribution to this ngubu debate

The root of most Kenyan problems is our huge lack of concern for problems that affect other people and believing those problems will never affect us

Arsenal celebrations have triggered a dimension of wokeness we haven't seen before. It's all good, except it's unidirectional. It critiques and demands action from the Arsenal heathen. Except, outside pointing at the other, what has this sudden awareness that allow us to critique done in practice? Where are the examples? For 99%, absolutely nothing. Even the good General finds himself in some North American country where he is a barrister. Even beloved Amenya can only speak from the bowel of one of the worst colonial and post-colonial master. In short, with our mouthful of sour grapes, let's all enjoy the colonial trappings and vestiges of slavery we have chosen.

In the book “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley, there is a dystopia in which there is no family, no God, no beauty and no art. People worship only pleasure. Babies are produced in artificial wombs and children have sex. Instead of movies they have “feelies” which are just pornography in a cinema. I was horrified when I read that novel as a fourteen year old in school because it ended in the suicide of the one good character in it. But not more horrified than when I saw every single one of its predictions come true. Cannes film festival ought to be annihilated for endorsing this vulgarity and filth. As should every major art institution today.
The film has a 10-minute sex scene. The director made the actresses shoot it for 10 straight days. He made them redo a single 30-second street-crossing scene over 100 times before he was finally satisfied. The film won the biggest prize at Cannes for it. Four months later, both actresses said they would never work with him again. The film is Blue Is the Warmest Color, directed by Abdellatif Kechiche, starring Léa Seydoux (the actress from the last two James Bond films) and Adèle Exarchopoulos. In 2013, Steven Spielberg led the Cannes jury and gave the top prize to all three of them on the same stage, something the festival had never done before. The shoot was supposed to take two and a half months. It took twice as long. They shot 750 hours of footage to end up with a 3-hour film. After one of those takes, Seydoux laughed. Kechiche picked up his screen monitor and threw it into the street, screaming that he couldn't work under those conditions. For the long sex scene, the actresses wore fake body parts made from molds of their actual bodies. In May 2013, the French film crew union filed a complaint against the production. Workdays were running 16 hours but logged on timecards as 8. Overtime was unpaid, and multiple labor laws were broken. People had quit mid-shoot. By September, both actresses sat down with a reporter and called the atmosphere a form of harassment. Kechiche fired back with an open letter calling Seydoux an "arrogant, spoiled child" for criticizing him and threatened to take her to court for libel. The woman who wrote the graphic novel the film was based on, Julie Maroh, had already gone public. She called the sex scenes "porn" and said what was missing on the set was lesbians. By the time the film hit U.S. theaters that fall, none of the three Palme winners were speaking to each other. In 2017, Kechiche put his Palme d'Or trophy up for auction to fund his next movie. Its 2019 sequel premiered at Cannes with a 13-minute unsimulated oral sex scene. Audiences walked out in groups. Critics gave it a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes. A source claimed the actors had been pressured to drink alcohol to finish. That October, a French actress went to the police and accused Kechiche of sexual assault. Paris prosecutors dropped the case in 2020 for lack of evidence. He denies the allegations. Hollywood was changing too. By October 2018, HBO required intimacy coordinators on every show with sex or nude scenes, people who protect actors during intimate filming. America's actors union released the first official rules for them in January 2020. The first union contract for intimacy coordinators in U.S. film and television took effect on February 22, 2026, three months ago. The clause Seydoux now writes into every contract, the right to approve which nude scenes stay in the final cut, has become standard practice for most lead actors.

Anyone considering a Matiang’i presidency as a replacement for Ruto is highly delusional. Jubilee was a 10-year tragedy that initiated the free fall and resulted in a Ruto presidency. We need serious candidates who are not pushing their selfish agendas.

Don't explain to anyone. When the prices rose by almost 70 bob did we create 33 new counties?????
To subsidize fuel by Kes 50, we need to abolish 33 counties. I explain below. I agree Parliament must be recalled from recess. They’ll have to do some trade offs and some math. Some data to start us off: - Kenya annual consumption : consumes roughly 6–7 billion litres of petroleum products annually (petrol diesel kerosene combined). - Monthly this is 500–600 million litres Now let’s see what people are asking for in subsidy. If government subsidized fuel by KSh 50 per litre, the monthly cost would be approximately 50* 500m or 50*600m This is KSh 25–30 billion per month [KSh 300–360 billion per year] What does this mean? - 72% -86% of county Counties (Equitable Share) - 51% of Kenya’s entire education budget. - 2–2.6 times the entire national health budget - CDF will have been dropped 5X over -21X statehouse budget -13X judiciary budget -7.2X parliament budget When you hear people mention KSh 50 fuel subsidy as a small measure - it is not a “small relief measure.” We are in a difficult moment. And we must remember this in our pursuit for political relevance. I wish parliament the best. BUT they should definately be recalled from recess. For once you miss Baba @RailaOdinga. He would know that on a time like this, Jenya is facing a much bigger problem than anything ever in its history. - @TimKipchumba

Niliquit 9-5 ilikuwa inanilipa 150k/month. Imenitake two years for my company kunilipa 67k/month na nafanya kazi from 7AM to 11PM every day, na sometimes unapata uko na employees wanakupea the hardest time ever, na kuwafuta kazi ni even more expensive. Every month uko na bills za kulipa in the millions, end month kila mtu ako happy isipokuwa wewe juu uko na another 30 days kuraise another million. Na imagine all this trouble ndiyo net salary yako ikuwe 50k Sometimes doh haitoshi unasema wacha ulipe the employees alafu KRA utawatumia yao by 9th, unajaribu kupata loan bank inakataa juu hauna shamba ya security, inafika 15th unapata weird calls, unashika unapata ni KRA, unawaambia utawalipa next Friday, wanakuambia Friday haiwezekani, labda Thursday. Inabidi uongee with one of your clients akulipe mapema, anakusomea akikuambia biz haifanywi hivo but anaitikia eventually. Next week inafika unalipa KRA, SHA,NSSF, Housing Levy. Unahave some peace kidogo only to realize that next week ni end month na this time uko na deficit kubwa kushinda last month, and the cycle continues. Kama uko 9-5 na uko sawa, I can’t advise you to quit. Heri ujaribu entrepreneurship in parallel but usiquit job yako. It feels good when you tell people that you quit your job to pursue your dream but you also need to understand that your dream will take time before it starts paying the bills, and it might also die before you eat a shilling from it.
Kuna Life 9-5 will never give you hata uchape kazi miaka ngapi. Utakua unaonea Social Media na kwa TV ukisema watu wanaosha pesa huku nje but in real sense watu wanajituma. Be ambitious enough to also live a life that hata ukifika 40 na udedi atleast you lived a life.

For many Kenyans, whom to vote is not a political decision. It's a moral/emotional one. So when they ask why they should vote for someone, what they want is an emotional response, not a political one. Remember that even Cambridge Analytica said this in 2017. People don't vote on reason but on emotion. youtu.be/mpbeOCKZFfQ?si=hKV9…
Sometimes Kenyans can be a very tiring lot, mtu anajua what kind of presidential attributes are best for this country, akiangalia candidates wamevie, anaona ni Maraga pekee yake ako na hizo qualities. Lakini bado anakuuliza ati a votie Maraga kwanini.
