Last Friday, CDOT employee Riley O'Neil was killed after a driver opened a car door into an unprotected bike lane and forced Riley into oncoming traffic.
Riley worked passionately on the CDOT Complete Streets team and previously led the bike parking program - he even got the bike rack installed outside our old office on Belmont. Riley was deeply committed to making our streets safer for all users to enjoy - a goal we share.
Our team is heartbroken for Riley’s family and friends and the entire biking community.
Please join us in honoring Riley by referring to the many bike racks you see throughout the city as "Riley Racks" - and if you drive, please slow down and always look out for cyclists before opening your doors to avoid another needless tragedy.
