This administration has treated children with disgusting cruelty and callousness. After seeing it up close, I had to take action. The Dignity and Due Process for Children Act will establish a floor of legal protections every child in this country should expect. This is a floor. A starting place. We must pass this legislation now. No child belongs in prison, and until this is the law of the land, we must ensure their most basic rights are protected. CHILDREN must be protected, not treated as criminals.

Today, I led the @HouseDemocrats in wearing orange to honor Hadiya Pendleton and every life stolen by gun violence. Orange was Hadiya's favorite color, and now, it's a bright beacon for gun violence awareness. We owe survivors more than thoughts & prayers. We owe them action.

I've seen firsthand how Trump's immigration policies are traumatizing children, all funded by our tax dollars. Babies are being kidnapped. Elementary school children are being sent to court to face judges without the protection of a lawyer. Families are being removed from our country using the force of the U.S. military. It has to stop. Congratulations to the remarkable Reynolds High School students who have overcome enormous odds to earn a spot at the National Speech and Debate Tournament! They deserve our community’s deepest respect—under the coaching of Valerie Schiller, these youth created a team, won competitions, and then, with the support of their community, raised the funds to get themselves to the tournament. Oregonians deserve a Forest Service that has the resources it needs to keep our communities and public lands safe.

Too many Oregonians can’t afford gas, groceries, or healthcare. You would think Republicans would be focusing on that this week. Nope. Trump and Republicans are hell-bent on pushing a budget that sends *MORE* of your tax dollars to ICE. I will vote NO! I refuse to send another cent to ICE or CBP.

What are House Republicans up to this week? Not lowering your costs. Not fighting corruption. Not protecting healthcare. But funneling $70 billion to ICE’s masked thugs.

Our veterans deserve to get the best support our federal government can offer. Mental health and substance use care. Cancer screening and treatments. Housing. Our veterans put their lives on the line to serve, understanding we would have their and their family’s back. As a member of the Veterans Affairs’ Committee, I have seen how we are failing to uphold our promise.
