Over 25 years ago, the FDA approved mifepristone as a safe and effective drug for abortion and miscarriage management. Yet, Republicans across the country are trying to use the 19th-century Comstock Act to prevent access by mail. Two years ago, the Supreme Court stopped one such effort in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, but the pending Louisiana v. FDA case could reverse course.Ā  As Chair of the Abortion Access and Rights Task Force in the @ReproCaucus, I’m fighting to repeal the abortion-related provisions of the Comstock Act so everyone can get the reproductive care they need when they need it.

Today marks 59 years since Loving v. Virginia, when the SCOTUS struck down Virginia’s ban on interracial marriage as violating the 14th Amendment.Ā  As a state senator in 2020, I was proud to pass legislation finally repealing the Racial Integrity Act of 1924, which included that ban.Ā  Now in Congress, I’m continuing the fight to end racial discrimination and preserve marriage equality.Ā  #LovingDay

Everyone deserves access to the full spectrum of reproductive care options to decide on their own terms when, whether and how to become a parent and treat a wide range of health conditions. I joined @AFContraception, @BirthInColor, @PPAVirginia and advocates to share my experiences with contraception and stress the need for Congress to pass the Right to Contraception Act.

I cannot vote for a FISA Section 702 reauthorization bill that does not include reforms to improve accountability and balance privacy concerns with our national security priorities. Here’s why this and Trump’s pick for Acting Director of National Intelligence matter 🧵

Moreover, President Trump’s selection of Bill Pulte as Acting DNI gives me greater pause to reauthorize Section 702 without reforms. A partisan attack dog for the President, Pulte has no national security or intelligence experience to qualify him to oversee the United States intelligence apparatus. His unwavering loyalty to Trump and pattern of weaponizing his role as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency against the President’s perceived enemies make granting him unfettered authority under FISA Section 702 unacceptable.

The Trump Administration wants to conduct widespread and unchecked surveillance of the public to target its political enemies. Pulte and Speaker Mike Johnson seem all too eager to help the Administration with this effort. I refuse to grant someone like Bill Pulte the ability to abuse Section 702 of FISA to infringe on the constitutional rights of the American people.

ICYMI: In a rare moment of bipartisanship, the House passed the Faster Labor Contracts Act to accelerate contract negotiations between newly-unionized workers and management. I voted yes because once workers unionize, they shouldn’t have to wait years for a collective bargaining agreement.
My Faster Labor Contracts Act has passed the House! Newly unionized workers shouldn't have to wait years for their first contract. I appreciate my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for coming together to take this enormous step – now let's finish the job:

63 years ago today, President Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law, forbidding employers from paying men and women different wages or acquiring different benefits for the same amount of work or skills.Ā  Despite these efforts, gender pay disparities persist, with women earning 20% less than what men earn on average for equal work. The gap is even worse for women of color. In Congress, I’m co-sponsoring the Paycheck Fairness Act to eliminate gender-based wage discrimination and ensure equal pay.

A nuclear energy strategy that supports true American energy independence requires a safe and well-regulated nuclear energy sector. During today’s Energy subcommittee hearing, I focused on how the Trump Administration’s actions threaten the independence of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, pose safety risks and jeopardize projects currently in the works.

Bill Pulte is wholly unqualified to be the Director of National Intelligence. But he is unwaveringly loyal to President Trump and will do anything he says without question, even if it violates the U.S. Constitution. THAT’S who Republicans want us to give U.S. surveillance authority to???

Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan retweeted
Republicans have once again rubber-stamped Trump's extreme, corrupt agenda—this time giving billions of dollars to out-of-control agencies and green-lighting his self-serving slush fund and gold-plated ballroom. Statement from New Dem Leadership.

Last year, Republicans’ Big Ugly Law gave nearly $75 billion to ICE and $65 billion to CBP to conduct an overly aggressive mass detention and deportation campaign that has caused a public safety crisis in our communities, trampled due process rights and caused the deaths of at least 50 people. Now, Republicans provide another $70 billion to these agencies without providing the same guardrails and accountability measures required of law enforcement officers across the country. I voted no. 🧵

As ICE and CBP agents continue to wreak havoc and undermine public safety, Republicans have stood by them every step of the way, giving them free reign to terrorize our immigrant communities and march through our streets detaining, injuring and killing people with zero accountability. At a time when the cost of basic necessities like rent and groceries has gotten higher and higher under the Trump Administration, the American people did not vote for this and want the fear and the violence to end.

I urge the Administration to invest in critical public safety and community programs that actually work, not their overly aggressive mass detention and deportation campaign and political theater that come at the expense of access to health care, education and improved economic opportunity.
