Did you know that @JHUAPL’s own Andre Douglas has been selected to be part of the Artemis III mission for his very first spaceflight? Best of luck to the Artemis III crew – we are #MarylandProud!

The best days on the job are those where we can help our neighbors in need. One of those neighbors, Steve from Severn, was facing skyrocketing Medicare premiums. After reaching out to our office, his premiums were restored to their previous rate within days! Whether it’s health care, Social Security, immigration, or anything in between, if you think #TeamElfreth can be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out at (410) 832-8890 or check out the link below for more information on casework assistance. elfreth.house.gov/casework-a…

Every day I hear from neighbors who are struggling with rising costs, especially when it comes to energy bills. Today, Marylanders face the highest household utility costs in the entire nation. I sat down with @LCVoters to discuss how we can work together to lower energy costs by advancing clean energy projects at the scale and speed our communities need. Especially as President Trump’s reckless war in Iran drives up costs, our neighbors deserve policies that will help them not just get by but get ahead.

Our Founders enshrined the right to freely practice one’s faith in the First Amendment of the Constitution because so many – including my family – came to our country in search of religious freedom. The proposed ‘Sharia-Free America Caucus’ and other Islamophobic legislation are not only beneath this institution, but outright unconstitutional. I’ve joined @RepJamesClyburn and over 115 of my Democratic colleagues across the House and Senate to condemn the establishment of this caucus and its promotion of blatantly discriminatory legislation because all our neighbors deserve to practice their faith without fear.

Last week, House Democrats forced a vote to send crucial military aid to Ukraine and place sanctions on Russia – and it passed! In today’s edition of Sarah Explains It All, I’ll be breaking down how we did it.

For over 15 years, @BlueStarFamily has served one of the largest non-profits helping our veterans and military families build community and get the support they need. This week, I sat down with members from the Maryland chapter of Blue Star Families to strategize how we can expand access to child care and employment opportunities both on and off base for military families and spouses. As the daughter and granddaughter of Army, Navy, and Air Force veterans, I know firsthand how crucial supporting military families is to enrollment, retention, and readiness because delivering for these families means delivering for our servicemembers. Stay tuned for our progress!

Weekends, sick leave, child labor law – these are just a few rights we have thanks to unions. Yet, on average, it takes more than 465 days for a new union to secure its first collective bargaining agreement. Our workers should be able to negotiate in good faith from day one rather than being held up by employers. That’s why I voted YES on @DonaldNorcross and @RepPeteStauber’s bipartisan Faster Labor Contracts Act so our workers can more easily fight for the wages and benefits they deserve. Good news: with 20 Republicans joining Democrats, the bill passed the House! politico.com/live-updates/20…

⚾ First @thehillbaseball game in the books! Last night, we stepped off the House floor and onto the field to raise a record-breaking $3.2 million for incredible charities across the DMV! I’m so grateful to have been part of Team Democrats this year and proud that, as first base coach, we had no base running mistakes! Thanks to everyone involved for a great ball game and an even better cause.

Even on the busiest days in Washington, it’s always a highlight meeting with our bright young Marylanders! Between votes, I spoke with Elizabeth – a rising junior and current @Sen_Alsobrooks intern – and answered some of her questions about my work in Congress and how I got my start in government. Our young leaders who continue leaning in and staying curious about public service are who give me hope.

House Republicans just passed a $70 BILLION slush fund for ICE and CBP. No reforms. No guardrails. Nothing to lower your costs. That is why I voted no. politico.com/news/2026/06/09…

Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) leads our nation in research, testing, and emerging technology – and for nearly three decades, APG’s Army Alliance has been crucial in supporting its mission. I joined the Army Alliance’s annual meeting last week to discuss how we can strengthen our partnership to advance our shared regional and national security goals. As the only Marylander on a defense or national security committee, a key part of my job is working alongside and in constant collaboration with our alliances to support their work on and off base.

It’s 2026, but the fight to stop renaming our military bases after Confederate soldiers continues. I had to speak up at last week’s Committee markup when a colleague erroneously accused Democrats of trying to erase history. Let me be clear: the renaming of Confederate bases is not about the history we are preserving – it’s about the history we are celebrating. I voted yes on @RepStricklandWA’s amendment to uphold the work of this Committee and remove the Confederate names of bases — and I’m proud to share that this amendment passed the Committee bipartisanly!

Every American, regardless of political party, should be deeply concerned about the solvency of Social Security, our greatest anti-poverty program. We only have a few short years to fix this looming issue before an automatic 22% reduction in benefits kicks in. I’ve been in Congress for 522 days, but the only meaningful conversation about solving this crisis was among freshmen Democratic and Republican members during orientation. We believed then – and I continue to believe now – that we have the responsibility to save Social Security for generations to come. washingtonpost.com/politics/…

After cutting 74,000 employees at Social Security Assistance last year, the Trump Administration is now reassigning thousands of SSA employees away from their primary, essential duties. But without adequate training, these reassignments will exacerbate wait times – and they do nothing to solve the agency's critical staffing shortages. I’ve joined @RepMGS, @RepJohnLarson, and over 70 of my Democratic colleagues in demanding answers on the impact of these staffing cuts and what exactly is being done to ensure the 73.9 million retirees relying on Social Security get the benefits they deserve.

61 years ago today, with Griswold v. Connecticut, the Supreme Court expanded health care options and reproductive rights for millions. Birth control remains one of the most fundamental, safe, effective, and accessible forms of reproductive health care in our country. As a member of @DemWomenCaucus, I’m committed to safeguarding access to this crucial form of care, so all our neighbors can continue having the freedom to make the best decision for their health and futures.
