Parish-level councils across Wiltshire are going through the motions of deciding their share of local council taxes. Is anywhere in Wiltshire - indeed, is anywhere at all - opting for a bigger % rise than Salisbury City this year?

I am disappointed by the decision of Salisbury City Council’s administration to pass the budget last night with a 44% tax rise. When household incomes are being squeezed, an extra £102 tax bill from their parish council is the last thing Salisbury residents need.

In Wiltshire well over 10% of our work force are in the armed forces. The idea that cutting their pay, along with that of teachers, NHS staff and local government workers would be anything other than catastrophic for our rural economy! Madness

Actually speechless.
There is simply no way you can do this without a massive pay cut for 5.5m people including nurses, police officers and our armed forces outside London.

Liz Truss says she’ll “save £8.8bn” by paying public workers less in poorer regions. This would start with new civil servants and “if it works” be extended to public sector workers, meaning £8.8bn comes from nurses/police/teachers etc in Sunderland paid less than ones in Surrey.
