On @TalkBirdie_ToMe today @nickohern and @MarkAllenGolf did a 'breaking news' pod chatting to Golf Australia boss James Sutherland about the huge news of Golf Australia formally partnering not only with the DP World Tour, but the PGA Tour, and revealing Peninsula Kingswood as the venue for the 2027 Australian Open. Bud Cauley win earns him a spot into the U.S. Open via top-60 OWGR. Cauley also earns an OPEN spot via top-3 in Canadian Open not already qualified. Finishing T4, Jesper Svensson & Jackson Suber earn the other two spots. (Stanger & Garnett were also T4, but the OPEN spots go to the highest OWGR of tied players) And of course Cauley earns the full array of other perks as a PGAT winner. 2-Year exemption... '27 Masters & Players... '26 Travelers... and a bunch of other stuff I'm probably missing... At least 6 Final Qualifying Alts will make the U.S. Open Field. Chandler Phillips already has replacing Marco Penge, which leaves at least 5 more. We don't know who all those alts are yet, except for Harry Higgs out of the Gaston FQ who we know is 6th overall FQ alt...

This might be one of the craziest golf nerd situations I’ve ever run across. (Stick with me on this) So Jimmy Stanger is on a medical exemption. Today he needed a par on 18 to earn enough points. He made bogey after hitting it in the water with his second shot. He is now 22 points short of fulfilling his medical. And he only has one start left in his medical to get those points. And this where it gets wild. Two weeks ago in Dallas, Stanger qualified for the U.S. Open. It will be the first Major of his career. And if that’s not enough pressure. It will count as his last medical start. I confirmed that any start, no matter how the player got in the field, counts as a medical start. He will need a solo 40th to earn enough points. Absolutely insane situation. I wonder if he will consider at all WD’ing and go to John Deere where he would need a solo 34th. Very interesting golf nerd storyline for next week.

These winner's family photos are so hard to pull off. Cuz little kids rarely cooperate, so they look stiff and forced... But these are EXCELLENT. Among the best I've seen in a long time... @BudCauley (wish @PGATOUR would credit photographer on these things)
The first one is extra special 🏆

OWGR top-60 update for U.S. Open Qualification... thru 3 rounds Canadian Open GREEN = Already Qualified for the U.S. Open As of now... Bud Cauley, at solo 2nd, would be the only new player inside the top-60 this week (#45), which would qualify him for the U.S. Open. Even with a win, current leader Jackson Suber can't get to top-60. As of now he's trending to #63. The only player to drop out of top-60 as of now is Andrew Novak. But no worries for him as he's already qualified for the U.S. Open Reminder... this is after 3rd round and TENTATIVE OWGR rankings. This tightly bunched leaderboard is VERY Volatile.

Make that #64 for Suber as shown above... he can't make top 60, even with a win.

Not to get ahead of ourselves cuz there's a long way to go... but thru R2 of the Canadian Open there has been no new movement into the top-60...

Canadian Open is last chance for players to earn a U.S. Open spot via OWGR Top-60 That puts the focus on the players in BLUE in the chart below and the tentative estimated finish they need to gain top-60 (using 1.9 OWGR average as the benchmark). Finish needed to gain top-60 are also shown for players already qualified, not that they need it, but their finish could affect others trying to gain top-60. I will update this with exact finishes (including Tie scenarios) on Saturday. OVERVIEW of CHART... • All players in far left column (thru 54) are exempt and will remain in OWGR top-60 after this week. • Players with Red X can NOT reach top-60, but some are otherwise qualified (GREEN) • No player playing outside Canadian Open can move into top-60 • Only 1 player below Kanaya at #156 can reach the field with a win. #165 Adam Schenk can not get to top-60, but can gain entry to USO with a win via having won twice on the PGAT in the last year.

Tony Finau shot 65 today at the Canadian Open and is currently tied for second. Top three finishers not otherwise exempt qualify for The Open Championship. As noted in story Finau failed to qualify for the first three majors this year.
Tony Finau is surprisingly missing his third major this year after having played in 33 straight. He’s got a chance to get in The Open with a strong performance at the Canadian Open. I wrote about this - plus a podcast appearance - for the Daily Drive open.substack.com/pub/thedai…

The @KornFerryTour's inaugural OccuNet Classic is the first start for the PGA Tour University grads, and also the last exempt start for the Q School 6-30, Americas 2-10, and 2025 University players, who will now be subject to the third reshuffle. Here's the field by category:
