We have suffered years to those whose teaching experience is minimal and who dismiss motivation, pleasure, imagination, engagement, deep thinking and creativity - the cornerstones of genuine education. No wonder children don’t read

This, and the @Literacy_Trust survey data will come as no shock to those in the know about teaching reading (including appropriate and good quality teaching of phonics!) but should be seriously looked at in the Curriculum and Assessment Review, if decisions are made on evidence.

So proud of our Olympic team representing our country but then devastated to see the mindless, ill-informed (mostly men) attacking our country, our police and our democracy. Farage and Bravaman have a lot to answer for.

It's impossible to view the postings of Farage, without utter revulsion. He masquerades as a " reasoned commentator" on what he claims to be a national crisis linked to immigrants while claiming he deplores any lawlessness. Then he hints at more lawlessness if his warnings are not heeded. The reality is that his entire political future is dependent on fomenting confrontation and division. It is by creating a climate of crisis that he has got where he has. And some of my former Conservative colleagues have argued the Conservatives should be linking up with Reform! Perhaps this shameful episode will open their eyes to his malevolence.

Far more “British values” on display from the imam offering anti-Muslim demonstrators a cup of tea and a chat than from the idiots throwing stones at his mosque.

Britain has a proud tradition of free speech and peaceful protest – those must always be protected. But violence and hatred targeted at minority communities is never justified and always abhorrent. It is completely unacceptable that Muslim and asylum-seeker communities are feeling so unsafe and I encourage people to reach out and support them.
