NEW COLUMN: Carney in trouble over cost of living The numbers are turning on Mark Carney, all at once. New polls show approval down seven points in two weeks, his biggest setback as PM. B.C. and young Canadians are bailing fast. The NDP voters who handed him the win in the last election are heading home. And the rot at the centre? Cost of living. When people can't afford the basics, they get angry, and they remember. winnipegsun.com/opinion/cana… #cdnpoli #cdnpolitics

Now we need widespread, meaningful treatment. Step up @MarkJCarney.
Harm reduction activists claimed that “safer supply” would save lives, yet, after access was severely restricted, overdose deaths in the province have plummeted.

NEW COLUMN: Carney can't appeal to Alberta, Poilievre can Alberta votes October 19 on whether to start leaving Canada. The man who should be fighting to keep them is nowhere to be found. Mark Carney grew up there, but his Liberals trail badly and his pipeline promise rings hollow. He's rallying no one. So someone else has to carry the federalist message. After his Calgary speech, that someone is Pierre Poilievre. His pitch was simple: Alberta doesn't need a different country. It needs different policies in Ottawa. After a decade in power, the Liberals caused this crisis. They can't be the cure. If Confederation survives this vote, don't thank Carney. Thank the man willing to make the case they never could. winnipegsun.com/opinion/koop… #cdnpoli #cdnpolitics

We need answers. A police officer is dead. And there appear to be links to the IRGC. The Liberals have treated Iran’s terrorist regime has been shockingly lenient & lacking. Tehran has victimized so many, including Canadians. Globalnews.ca globalnews.ca/news/11899866/…

The government believes Canadian automakers can diversify away from the US. Except no company thinks a business case exists. Holding onto this fantasy prevents the government from aggressively pursuing a continuation of the integrated North American market.

Two-thirds of Canadians are anxious about the economy. Four in ten are losing sleep over their finances. The Liberals drove Canada into recession through reckless economic mismanagement. This is what a decade of failure feels like around the kitchen table. ctvnews.ca/ottawa/article/mo…

Imagine electing a global banker, an economist, and “crisis manager”… only to end up in a recession while no one else is. You can dress it up but a recession is still a recession. So it’ll be interesting to see what gets blamed this time.

The truth is Poilievre has been the ONLY federal leader addressing the recession with sadness and regret, and in a solemn tone. He's done so by connecting the economic statistics to the experiences of regular Canadians who are suffering under Carney's recession. I wrote about that here: winnipegsun.com/opinion/koop… #cdnpoli #cdnpolitics

"The reality of the recession is one of pain, heartbreak, and disappointment. That’s the reality Mark Carney needs to understand. So far, he’s hardly risen to the moment. After the numbers landed last week, the PM dodged a question from a reporter about the recession. He literally ran out the door to avoid answering. The man who built his whole brand on economic competence had nothing to say. The last thing Canadians need is more speeches about productivity and nation-building. They need a Prime Minister who understands what’s happening at their kitchen tables, and then acts accordingly. If Mark Carney can’t make that connection, then maybe he’s in the wrong job." @RoyceKoop

While millions of Canadians got a little of their own money back through the grocery credit, Mark Carney spent $195,000 of your money on in-flight catering. Red wine braised beef. Scottish salmon. Lamb rump. Luxury Normandy buttercups. Canadians are stretching grocery credits. He’s dining on luxury menus at 30,000 feet. #cdnpoli

NEW COLUMN: The recession is real and Carney doesn't get it   Canada just posted two straight quarters of shrinking GDP, the textbook definition of a recession.   Behind the jargon are real people: hungry kids, record food bank lines, families losing their homes.   Carney built his brand on economic competence. But asked about the recession, he literally ran for the door.   Canadians don't need more speeches about nation-building. They need a PM who gets what's happening at their kitchen tables.   winnipegsun.com/opinion/koop… #cdnpoli #cdnpolitics

NEW COLUMN: Carney's luxury meals contrast with meagremenu for Canadians Beef tenderloin, Scottish salmon, and “luxury Normandy butter cups.” That's the menu on Mark Carney's flights, billed to taxpayers.   His first year of airplane food cost over half a million (!)   That's more than the average family spends on groceries in three decades.   Meanwhile, Canada just slid into recession, the only G7 nation to do so. Charcuterie at 35,000 feet, hardship on the ground below.   Voters don't turn on politicians over spreadsheets. They turn on them over a feeling, and small things stick. winnipegsun.com/opinion/carn… #cdnpoli #cdnpolitics

"Spend Less" Carney promised...
Holy crap. "The PBO projects the federal deficit will nearly double this fiscal year, from $36.3B (1.2% of GDP) in 2024-25 to $72.0B (2.2% of GDP) in 2025-26."

This is what Bill C-5 opened the door to. The Liberal government made house arrest available again for serious offences that used to be excluded, including robbery. A violent home invasion should mean jail time.
Their home was broken into at 1:00 a.m. They were violently assaulted and robbed in their own home. The offender got no jail, just 18 months of house arrest. That’s not justice.

NEW COLUMN: The Liberals made this mess, don't blame Danielle Smith Alberta is inching toward a separation referendum, and a lot of people are pointing fingers at Premier Danielle Smith. They've got the wrong target. For 40 years, Liberal governments treated Alberta like a piggy bank while blocking its economy from growing. From Pierre Trudeau's National Energy Program to Justin Trudeau's "no more pipelines" bill, the message was clear: the West doesn't matter. Now Carney sells the appearance of progress on a pipeline that still has no shovels in the ground. You can't spend decades frustrating a province and act shocked when it starts asking if Confederation is worth it. If a referendum comes, the Liberals earned it. winnipegsun.com/opinion/koop… #cdnpoli #cdnpolitics
