I'd like to share that earlier this year I accepted a tenured Associate Professor position at the University of Macau @UM_1981 After spending the past 10 years studying and working in Canada, I'm looking forward to returning home and beginning this new chapter. I’m deeply grateful to my mentors who helped to shape my career, especially my fantastic mentor @Frangougroup her guidance and unreserved support have been invaluable to my career development; my phd advisors Drs Yao and Long; and @NinetLab who recruited me to Canada to start an extraordinary decade of personal growth. I’m also grateful to collaborators/mentors (@enigmabrains @PTenigma Dr Bearden Dr Downar Dr Blumberger and many others), colleagues and friends who have supported me along this journey.

The cheapest & most accurate way to predict student success would be by zip code. I guess it would feel a little awkward to admit that. science.org/doi/10.1126/scie… x.com/smarek0502/status/2065…
Columbia University has reinstated standardized testing for admissions — the last Ivy League school to do it. “Through a multi-year faculty review, it was determined that test scores, among other factors, were a useful indicator of potential student success.”

A new Science study suggests that variables linked to socioeconomic status—such as increased stress and reduced sleep—have strong relationships to brain structure and function in children. The brain differences observed are unrelated to genetic ancestry, say the authors. They also may not be permanent. scim.ag/4ouWxcM

I will be joining new academic home in a few months. My research program will be focusing on computational mental health, neuroimaging, and neuromodulation. I'll be recruiting at multiple levels: research assistants, phd students, postdocs, and research assistant professors. If you're interested in joining me and living in Macau, feel free to reach out.

External validation is a great way to improve rigor in neuroimaging. Although a simple idea is simple—test a predictive model on another dataset—the practice is not. In our Perspective in @naturemethods, we discuss these limitations and offer solutions: nature.com/articles/s41592-0…

Fresh off the press🧠LARGEST lifespan normative modeling of brain microstructure charting white matter development and decline throughout life. Created using data from 54,583 individuals, 4–91 years, 19 cohorts! @JulioVillaln1 💻github.com/villalonreina/ENI… 📖nature.com/articles/s41467-0…
We present the LARGEST normative model of the brain’s white matter microstructure: 54,583 subjects, 4-91 yrs, 19 datasets. We derived lifespan centile curves for DTI FA, MD, RD, AD, detecting anomalies for dementia, and Mild Cognitive Impairment: doi.org/10.1038/s41467-026-7… ⤵️

Excited to share our new paper in Biological Psychiatry: Global Open Science! Grateful to share this work as first author, examining whether neuroimaging-derived schizophrenia subtypes are reproducible, biologically valid, and clinically meaningful. @Frangougroup @RuiyangGe
Delighted to share our new paper in Biological Psychiatry Global Open Science. We critically appraise 18 neuroimaging-based clustering studies in schizophrenia and ask whether brain-derived subtypes are reproducible, biologically valid and clinically meaningful. doi.org/10.1016/j.bpsgos.202… @UBC_IMH @UBC_Psychiatry @RuiyangGe @YU_Yue_Tong @SOBP @MountSinaiPsych #brain #schizophrenia #AI #neuroimaging
