A weekend excavating at Thorn Park Farm, near Raincliffe Wood, exploring a square enclosure seen on aerial photographs. @SAHS_org discovered a deep gully which may have held a line of upright wooden posts forming a palisade. We now await radiocarbon results.

The remains of a fourth century #Roman signal station at #Scarborough Castle. It is one of at least five along that stretch of coast, built to warn against raids. Excavated in the 1920s, it is slowly eroding into the sea. @EnglishHeritage #RomanSiteSaturday #RomanBritain

On a cold but sunny Sunday members of @SAHS_org field team undertook a geophysical survey across the line of a probable double-ditch track in the fields of Thorn Park Farm at the foot of Raincliffe Woods near Scarborough.

@HE_Archaeology mapped the track as a cropmark while our @SAHS_org geophysical survey pinpointed its exact location on the ground. We plan to excavate a section across the feature later this month to try and date it.

This excavation will form part of a wider project to study the historic landscape of Thorn Park Farm which is known to have included a deer park in the middle ages belonging to the manor of Seamer.
