For 3 years, millions have been affected by ongoing violence and instability in Sudan. We are deeply concerned by the scale of this crisis and by how prolonged and normalized the suffering has become, for our Canadian Sudanese community and their loved ones back home, and the greater Sudanese community.
For Sudanese Canadians, this has meant holding loved ones together from a distance, trying to support, reassure, and sustain them while often setting aside their own wellbeing just to keep going. It is a quiet but relentless effort to make it through each day, grounded in responsibility, fear, and an unwavering sense of duty to family.
After three years, the weight is profound. There is deep hardship, exhaustion, and at times a sense of hopelessness, but also perseverance: a determination to continue showing up for one another, even when it feels like there is little left to give.
Today, we call on our partners and the broader Canadian community to pay attention to Sudan. Take time to learn, to reflect, and to engage.
We urge you to contact your representatives and call for meaningful action: sustained humanitarian support, protection of civilians, and a commitment to ensuring that Canadian involvement does not contribute to further harm.
Sudan deserves attention, accountability, and action.
