Depressing 35% increase in deaths in prison and other custody last year. At least 1 death at Brook House IRC which had pending Inquest this month.
The Labour government must act quickly and now.

We are acutely aware that when a prisoner dies, bereaved families want answers to their questions quickly. We started investigations into 486 deaths last year, a 35% increase. We are concerned that 100 of these were self-inflicted deaths. This is too many.

This isn't easy to read. But it's important. It's what constant dehumanising attacks from politicians on people seeking safety lead to. Thousands of people demanding to see fellow human beings denied food, shelter or healthcare.
It's why we must keep fighting for asylum rights.

Another life lost to an asylum system that abandons people to inadequate accommodation where they are not kept safe.
Mr Pereira Vargas deserved better. In his memory, and in the memory of everyone killed in this system, the Government must do better.

We're thrilled to have been awarded a grant by Gateway Exchange, administered by @FoundationScot, towards our visiting service to Dungavel.
The grant will really help us to continue to provide practical, social and emotional support to people detained indefinitely in Scotland.

Absolutely shocking accounts from people detained at the Manston processing facility in 2022, including a woman who says she was pregnant and unable to access medical care. She later miscarried. One man was denied a shower or clean clothes for 33 days.
