Today, the Springfield News Guild reached a tentative agreement with @Gannett for a first contract.
The two-year pact, which will go to members for a ratification vote in the coming weeks, is a fair agreement, bargained in good faith, during an often volatile time for journalism.

What a feeling! Years of work to get our newsroom better wages and severance. I am so proud for my small part.

The Springfield News Guild is not part of the walkout but we stand in solidarity with journalists who seek the resources they need to do their jobs.

I was just in Gannett's shareholder meeting and it was a complete farce. I personally submitted questions directly related to the agenda and yet Mike Reed said there were no questions. Others also submitted questions. #GannettGreed

Formed in early 2020, our guild has been at the bargaining table for nearly three years - through a pandemic, economic upheaval, the move to a new newsroom, and staff changes. But our commitment to serving readers and protecting and preserving local news has not diminished.

Been nostalgic this week to see pictures of my alma mater on strike.
I recall the grad student workers strike that happened when I went to UIC. As a college student it was so meaningful to have the experience of seeing labor action up close.
